Camshaft retaining ring

What's the consensus out there on these snap rings? Have you guys been reusing them or replacing them? Also which way are you facing them? I've now seen one with the sharp side (concave side) facing inwards and riding on the spacer and one with the convex side facing in and riding on the spacer. The convex one has wear marks on the sides of the ring which is also the thinner part of the ring. The one with the concave side towards the spacer has very slight wear marks at the bottom and at the top where the pliers go, which seem like better areas for the wear to be if any. But I've read that one way versus the other may be easier for the ring to pop off the end of the cam. I should think that if it's seated properly it wouldn't matter... Thoughts?

I'm a chronic overthinker... it can be a bad thing. Harley tech said it didn't matter which way the snap ring went on.

I replace the snap ring every time, I also install as directed in the service manual. Your not a chronic over thinker, your just paying attention to detail.
