Ordered Champion kit for Road King

Well, I did it! I got the kit ordered to turn my brother's road king into mine. I would have left it as is, but the weight and height were just too much for me. I went with the IRS. Here's a before pic. Gonna be a while before I get any new ones, but I'll add them as the conversion gets under way.

Welcome to Trike Talk Natalie! Looking forward to seeing the finished trike! Got a good starting point! Nice bike!

Converted my 2009 FLHTCU to 3 wheels with a Champion IRS kit this past November. Did the conversion myself and I"m very pleased with the outcome. I think you'll be happy too.

Update: I ordered the Champion kit in february and due to my 1st installer backing out, and had to find a new one, I just got my bike back, all triked out, last Friday. I'm including a pic of how it looks now.

Overall, I'm happy. I'm loving being able to ride my brother's bike. It looks great and I've received many compliments.

I do have a couple concerns though, that I'd like to see if anyone else has had and how it was resolved. I've really only put about 30 miles on the bike so far, so maybe it needs a break-in period, but there's a whining noise coming from the back right, under the trunk. Seems to only make it when the clutch is out, where when it's pulled in, it doesn't make that noise.

Also, as adverstised on Champion's website, anyone ordering a kit prior to February 28th was to receive 5 free accessories. I did not open the crate when it was delivered. When my bike was delivered, I asked my installer about them, and he said nothing else was in the crate. I have contacted Champion, and they said that my original order (ordered through a dealer) did not state the free accessories, so I would have to bring that up with the dealer, which I have contacted, no word back yet. Has anyone also run into this problem?

Thirdly, I ordered the independent axle for a 03 road king. While this was not mentioned in features, may pictures I saw of champion kits showed a lock for the trunk. What was provided for my kit/trunk, was an aluminum pull with cable going back to the trunk. My installer had to contact several people (remaining unnamed for now) to see where to place this pull. Since this is a pull only, and no way to lock the trunk, he opted to hide it under the right side cover, where you have to pop it open, feel around to find the pull, then pull to open trunk. I find this really unacceptable, that a kit that costs this much, would have a cheap pull, only on so many feet of cable, to use to open the trunk. If the cable was longer, it could have been put other places. Never in asking questions during my researching these kits, would I have thought to ask what type of locking mechanism the trunk had. Especially since I had seen pictures showing a lock on trunks. This pull is cheap, doesn't fit with the ascetics of the kit/bike, and due to cable length restrictions, could only be placed so many places. Has anyone found something to change this out?

Sorry, this post is so long. I wanted to include as much information as I could. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds in helping me find answers.

My dealer was able to resolve the issue regarding the advertised free accessories and Champion will be sending them to me. Thank you.

I'm still researching the whining noise or placement of the trunk pull, if anyone has any suggestions.

I'm also looking into stereo options, but I'll start a new thread for that.

Thanks.
