I get a lot of questions and have read several threads on exhaust sounds. I finally put a video on youtube so I could post it here of my motorcycle with open exhaust. It is 2 1/2" from the cat on back. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
The performance is great. I've ridden it coast to coast and back with no problems or issues.
It cost $100.00 from the local auto muffler shop.

One more listen. My wife is on the throttle and she was being a bit shy with the gas. I start out just behind the motorcycle then walk back to about 100 feet then back to the motorcycle again.

I have a '15 F6B and the new factory exhaust setup sounds very similar to this.
Needless, to say, I LIKE It. :)

This is one of the cheapest easiest mods I've done that achieved so much. I know of 2 other GL 1800s that have the same exhaust.

I don't know if Id go for a no back pressure system with the Wing. Long term.
I have a very similar sound with 2 stick mufflers on my trike
Ive had these folks make me up sticks for every car and bike Ive owned in the last 15 years.

When I had my Valk I/S, I played with the exhaust sound quite a bit.
1. Cut off the 3 small pipes coming off muffler can. Mellow
2. Punched thru the first internal divider. Louder
3. Punched thru the 2nd divider. Louder yet
4. Gutted the internals. Loud and like a tractor.
5. Cherrybomb Glasspaks welded to headers w/ 4" truck stacks. Looked nice with the chrome stacks. Fairly loud.
6. Bought resonators that you could slip into the truck stacks to tone it down. A must for long distance riding. (I was in a hurry to leave from a rally and didn't put in the resonators - rode about 12 hours and couldn't hardly hear for a couple of hours when got home. That's when I decided to revert back to stock.)
7. Back to stock exhaust with the 3 pipes cut off, packed exhaust tips with fiberglass to tone it down a bit.

Enjoy the sound, it sounds like a Nascar stocker. But watch out for your hearing!

When I got my 99 Valk. Which I bought to do a stock rebuild and use as my trike.
It came with a set of 3 into 3 pipes for each side.
While sound was nice its drone could drive you crazy. I ended up adding some baffles to each pipe. Sound at highway running still droned like mad.
I was told these pipes were worth a bit of $$ and traded them out for a set of NOS OEM pipes.

My current 1800 trike has chambered sticks 2.5 inches one for each side from the cat.
Similar sound but without the drone. Very much like what the original posters sound is.

1st pic is as brought home. Non running.
2nd as finished and then sold.
