Oil Leaking Again!

One day Harley may get my trike to not leak oil. Actually they get the leak fixed and another one shows up in a few weeks. Garage floor looks like when I used to build car engines in my previous house. Last leak, about 6 weeks ago, was the transmission. Transmission had to be completely disassembled to fix leak. Now transmission is still ok but leak is under the middle of the engine on the split. This will be the 8th leak to be repaired. Leaks before were the side cover on tranny, oil pan, oil cooler manifold 3 times, seals and gasket on tranny. This gets very old having trike in shop all the time.:gah::gah:

I guess all Harleys just want to mark their spot. So I got up this morning, 48*, and rode it to North Ocala and the Harley dealer. Ask them to fix this leak. This time they say they may have to pull the engine and it could take at least 3 days. Well all I can say is I love the warranty. Was my engine assembled on a Monday by a hung over idiot? The oil pan allen screws were all finger tight, if that and was when I had less than 5000 miles, now I have 45,000.

Wow talk about a run of bad luck, hope this time will be the last time.

man I feel for you..May need to put the screws on the dealer. or tell them to call the area rep and get his ass out there . Are there lemon laws in you area?

Sure agree with above comments, you sure are having BAD luck, here in CA we have 'lemon law' also - sure hope you can get some
satisfaction - these new Harley's shouldn't be leaving ANY marks.

Trust me , I know all about bad luck with your bike and more time in the shop than riding it. Quality control sucks. Then you have the half ass mechanics that don't know crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes we have lemon laws here in Florida. A couple of neighbors had a bad experience with their golf cars and ended up having to hire a lawyer. After about a year it finally got to court in Tampa. They won and the company had to return their money and take the golf cars back. That took almost 2 years total. One of my daughters bought a KIA Hybrid. That POS was having to be towed back to the garage all the time. She would get out somewhere and it would be dead, over 12 times in 6 months. She checked into lemon law and decided the time and money was not worth the trouble, she traded it on a Jeep.

I don't know if it is worth the time and money. It is still under warranty for another year. I am sure glad I got some extended warranty. Looks like I will get rid of it before the warranty is up. From the looks of what is happening with the 2014 they need to get the bugs out of them before I will consider a new one. May have to try an Indian next time. I sure will not get a foreign bike though!

It is a pain though when I can't ride and have a trip planned with friends.

If you're even considering an Indian, by all means you owe it to yourself to go and see them in person! They really are a class act and the quality and workmanship are excellent, not to mention that new engine! At present, many of the Indian dealers are taking reservations for test rides in the next few months. I think you'll be more then pleasantly surprised! ThumbUp

I'm going to have to test ride one this summer, I also want to test ride one of the shower head Harley's to see how he engine feels.

I like to test that indian that was converted on the front page section to a trike..also like to test ride the new water head Harley.

Talking about oil leaks, my 09 Triglide has had so many leaks that I have have gotten tired of fixing them. I've decieded that if it not leaking to bad, so be it.

Got the bike back and the leaks have been repaired AGAIN! They said they had to re-seal the oil pan and and replace the Stator and stator seal. Result is no more oil on the floor, knock on wood. This is the second time for the oil pan. :)

Now I am off to Jacksonville to the son's, then tomorrow we are heading down to Daytona for the 500 with the grandson also. Got new rear tires also as at 45,000 miles they did not have much tread left and were bald in the middle? Harley stealer wanted $430.00 for 2 rear tires. I went to Goodyear and got the same exact Dunlop tires for $220mounted, balanced, and installed. The stealer told me the Dunlop tire they had was made especially for the trike, BS, The Goodyear dealer said a Signature tire was the same tire as the Signature tire that was on the trike and it was BS that there was a different one made for the trike. What Bull Ship these Harley dealers feed us!

That is good to know! Thanks.

I was going to comment on the Lemon Law thing but sounds like you are well informed. If it were me I would be loudly and daily complaining at the dealership for a REAL deal on a new one!
