Oil Filters

Guess my question was a little muddled --

If you change your own oil and if you do not use a honda filter -- what brand and oil filter # do you use?? What can I buy at Wally World, Autozone or similar place that will fit??
Thanks, Rick

Below are oil filters considered direct replacements for the Goldwing GL1800.

Honda says they only recognize Honda filter for use on the GL1800.

• Purolator Pure One PL14612, about $6.00

• Mobil M1-108, about $12.

Made by Champion

• Bosch 3300, about $6.

Made by Champion

• Wal-Mart SuperTech ST6607

Made by Champion

• NAPA Gold 1365

• STP S-02876

I tried installing the ST-7317 at Wall Mart and I could barely get it in. It is an extremely tight fit and almost imposible to get out.

The same filters used with regular oil can be used with synthetic oils. Filtering of the oil has no bearing on the type of oil used. I use NAPA Gold 1365 with synthetic oil. The oil I use is the Rotella synthetic in the blue container with the blue cap. That oil is JASO approved.

Two questions:

1. How many miles do you run before changing synthetic oil and filter?

2. What is JASO?

(make that 3 questions)

3. Do you consider the Rotella as good as or better than Mobil 1 motorcycle oil or Amsoil?

For the 1st question, I run about 6000 miles on synthetic oil between changes.
That is about 2 changes a season. JASO is the Japaneese rating on oil that Honda requires because the engine and transmission shares the same oil.
I buy Rotella because I can get it a Walmart and it is cheaper than Mobil One or Amziol. They are all good, but be sure to look at the back of the container and check the ratings to see that JASO is listed.
