Not a pretty sight

I chanced upon a single vehicle accident this evening that involved a BMW touring bike. Both the rider and passenger were thrown from the bike when it struck the guard rail protecting the bridge support columns. Speed, poor lighting and, not being familiar with the road were evident.

This happened on the N B service road of I-35 in Waxahachie, TX just up from the new QT fuel stop. Nice, one mile long straight away that abruptly makes a slight right/left jog to clear the bridge supports. Not the first time this has happened at this location, sadly won't be the last. I got there just behind the first ambulance. Second one arrived shortly after. Some 20 minutes after, one of the fire engines was moved so that the vehicles on the service road could move on.

The fact that both of the ambulances were still on site with the crews standing around leads me to believe that the outcome for the rider and passenger is not good. This in light of the fact that we have a brand new level 1 accredited trauma center at Baylor Hospital just 2 miles to the south.

Wednesday there was a horrific single car accident on 70, possibly a mechanical/electronic malfunction where the car suddenly accelerated to 90+ mph, the driver lost control and the car rolled and burst into flames. 4 ambulances and an air lift one person was badly burned. http://www.timesleaderonline.com/news/local-news/2017/08/five-injured-in-fiery-crash/

3 ambulances ran with lights and one did not. Either their injuries were not life threatening or they passed away at the scene.

I'll bet you're right. If the ambulances weren't taking off in a hurry, it's either really good news or really bad news.

Based on what I could see between the fire engines that were being used to shield to accident scene, the bimmer was still on its side where it came to rest. My first thought was they are waiting on the coroner. Both meat wagons were just sitting there with their strobe bars on and the back doors open. Neither of the pumpers had their flood lights on. They were keeping the scene as dark as they could.

Reading about these incidents only reminds us of our own Mortality how quickly it can be snatched from us. Prayers for all involved and yes those who read about them all are effected by these events. Fred...

Lately a lot of MC accidents in this part of the world. Being close to a military base there are a lot of high speed accidents and usually lead to death for the rider.

Last year coming thru South Carolina south bound I saw 2 imports had smacked the divider wall

Both bikes and riders were DONE DOA

I saw the air ambulance loading the body bags

A cager behind me filmed it, later that night he loaded it on u tube, I thought My God y would any one do this?

I suppose it's all in how black & white print is interpreted by an individual. I think each poster/posting was only reflecting another possible tragic end to a story that happened to someone with like interest we all share. Many times the results are not the fault of the bike/trike operator.

Armco barriers are notorious for creating havoc with motorcycles. Many race tracks no longer have m/c races because of Armco barriers or have to rent air fencing to protect the riders.

I live about 6 miles from an interstate and 3-4 years ago they started putting steel cable up between the North & South bound lanes for miles. This to obviously prevent vehicles from crossing over into the opposing lanes of traffic. If an auto or truck gets into this cable it rips it and its mounting post down for long ways. If a motorcycle and rider(s) gets hung into it anything can happen. No room on either side of the interstate to just lay a bike down without contacting steel barriers or better yet hopefully regain control and ride off with dirty drawers.

I can understand where rhino2 is coming from. In this case, the rider simply accelerated the ball drop by his negligence.
