I rode on two wheels for 35 years. In March of this year, I was attacked by a patient in my ER (I'm an ER doctor) and sustained a concussion, broken ribs, cuts and bruises. Following the concussion, I had a very difficult time riding my Harley Ultra Classic due to post-concussion syndrome. I had headaches, balance problems and concentration issues.

We had three cycle trips planned for this summer, so rather than blow them off, I traded my Ultra in for a 2011 HD Tri Glide Ultra. I've put 5,200 miles on it in the past six weeks, and I really like the trike. My spouse feels very safe and stable on the back. In the meantime, my post-concussion syndrome has resolved, but I wouldn't go back to the Ultra Classic, as I enjoy the trike so much.

My only complaint is that it doesn't have enough power to maintain speeds going up an incline in sixth gear on the interstate in mountainous states. I'm looking for power upgrades and will be searching the archives here for advice and wisdom.

Hello joeychitwood, Welcome to the Forum. You will find a great amount of friendship and knowledge in the Forum. There have been conversations as to how to improve the power of your trike but very soon someone will be on to help you out. Not being a HD owner, I can only contribute one thing that I heard relating to upgrading the electronic control module chip but that's about all I can tell you right now. The good news is there is a way to improve it. Enjoy the Trike.

Welcome to the forum. I also converted after many years to a 2011 Triglide. We love it and just got back from a trip to Niagara Falls via Ontario. I have done a few things to help power, Changed the mufflers, Arlen Ness big sucker air cleaner, removed the catalitic converter, and retuned with a TTS tuner. Riding two up and loaded down I did not have to downshift very much at all on the hills unless my speed was below 2000 rpm, then I would downshift.

Have fun on your trips

welcome aboard Joey. Glad you joined us. Lots of good info on the forum on power inceasing. For the 2011 you would do the very same things that you would do for the Ultra 2 wheeler. The 103 motor takes real well to minor mods including a nice set of low RPM torque cams like the S&S 510's. Good luck.

Welcome Bro!!!! It was tough for me, black or red or black or red and if I wasn't so lazy concerning keeping it spotless all the time black would have won. Well, and even though she let's me have my way most of the time the wife loved the red, and you gotta keep em' happy.

I'm new to the forum as well and have only been a Triker for a week. These guys on here made me feel so welcome from the git go and have already offered so much wisdom I plan on making this (for the first time) the only bike forum I am a member of.

joeychitwood, welcome to the best and most friendly trike forum on the net. The last time i saw you, you were driving a car on two wheels all the way around the track at the county fair. LOL

Welcome Joey. With my '10 TG I just downshift to 5th when I need the extra power. I don't even think of 6th when going up a hill. the '11 is geared better than mine. note also they have more power in cold weather (rode mine in -3'F last winter).
