Have an '05 HD Ultra Classic, and will be visiting a couple of Dealer/Installers for the Champion trike kit in the next two weeks. Will then decide what Dealer I will have do the install.

One question, is the EZ steer a necessary item?

Thanks
Billh

Hello Bill welcome to the board. If U will follow some of the threads down there is already a discussion going on about the EZ steer. Some like it some don't about like anything else. Hope U enjoy the board and keep asking questions. Post some pictures when U have time.
Have a great weekend.

I also have a 05 ultra that I am going to have a champion kit installed on.I am not sure there is a right or wrong answer for that question,it is a personal preference thing.I test rode both ways and believe I will be happier with the ez steer, just my preference, but there are others that like it better with out.

Hey Bill, Welcome ! Hope you find this an interesting place as well as helpful. Know your gonna love that HD when you get the "spare" tire put on:) As for the EZ steer you can really open a can of worms on that. I don't have it on my goldwing but that's just my choice. Some will tell you they wouldn't have it while others say you can't live without it..My only advice is if possible, test ride a couple with and without and compare it to the cost. It's all personal preference.I don't have first hand experience with HD trikes, but I rode a "bunch" of Hondas before I got one. I'm a pretty good size boy and I just don't have a need for it, on the other hand if your wife/gf wants to ride it..well you see the point. Try to ride a couple and good luck with it. Glad to have you aboard!

Hey Bill fill out your profile. I had my Champion Trike kit installed by Lone Star Trikes in Canton MI. Nice folks to work with. lonestartrikes.com

I just filled out my profile (I think). I will be visiting Hickey's Black Metal Choppers in Saginaw this week and Lonestar next week. Will then decide which dealer to have the champion installed.

I see you are from Standish, we get to Standish area a few times every Summer for Camping and just to ride.

Thanks to all for the responses.

EZ-Steer

I just received my trike back from the conversion dealer. I have a 06 HD ultra classic that I had converted to a Motor Trike Conversion. Gary at Lonestar Trikes did my bike and I am very happy with the quality of the work and the care that they took with my bike. Lonestar does conversions for about 5 different trike companies. Champion is one of them.

Gary made a suggestion to wait on the EZ-Steer. He said to ride my trike for a while and see if I like it without. The cost is the same to change it weather I did it with the conversion or later. Also the tear-down is not effected as the EZ-steer is not part of the conversion.

If you put the EZ-Steer on right away you will never know what it is like without it.

Hello Tracy, welcome to the board. If U look on some of the other threads U will see there is one on the EZ-steer. It is kinda like asking what type of oil to use, everyone has there own idea. Sounds like the dealer was trying to look out 4 u. Like he said if u had it all the time u would not know the difference. Hope U enjoy the board and keep on adding to it.

Have a great week & ride safe

EZ-Steer

I put on a lot of trike miles before I ever had the opportunity to drive a trike with EZ-Steer on it. I never thought I`d want or need it, but I have to admit, I got spoiled pretty quickly after I had driven a friends trike with it. There is a difference.

If you ride in hilly and curvy terrain a lot, it will make the days a lot easier. If most of your riding is long straights and flat terrain, you probably wouldn't miss having it. The Florida and Texas dealers I have talked to don't sell nearly as many as some of the other state`s dealers.

I have also noticed some trike conversions feel a bit "heavier" steering than others do. A friend`s `02 GL-1800 California Sidecar Trike (triked in `06) was a beast to steer through moderate curves, while my `02 GL-1800 Motor Trike (triked in `06) was noticeably easier. Neither had EZ-Steer at the time. We both drove each on the same route at the same speed and we both agreed that there was a pretty noticeable difference. Maybe this is due to the dynamics of the independent rear on the CSC conversion, I am not sure, but the difference was there.

I think your dealers advice to wait and see is good. Try it without it and add it later if you find yourself getting tired or fatigued at the end of the day.

Happy Trails

Billh,
Do you camp at OAI Saginaw bay? If you do, I'm a member and live 2 miles from there. Time for a ride. :)

I am also a member, but haven't been to saginaw bay in a couple years. We mostly go to rifle river or to west branch. Will e-mail you next time up that way.

Hi Bill,
I live in Travers city and had a motortrike kit installed last sept. The dealer said of 100 installations he only had two come back for easy steer. I'm disappointed that I didn't have it installed in the beginning ($1100) as the faster you go with my 07 wing, the harder it is too steer, would be no fun for me in alot of twistys, slow speeds are ok (very slow speeds)
Hope this helps?:)

Well I went to Lonestar trikes in Canton yesterday. After taking to Gary, the owner. for quite a while, I have decided on the Motor Trike over the Champion. Will be ordering today, without EZ Steer and without Reverse. can always add later if necessary.

A couple reasons for going with the MT is Independent Suspension and I get to keep the Screamin Eagle pipes.

Hopefully the waiting will not be to bad, the weather here is not riding weather yet.

Gary said I should have it about the middle of next month. Sure hope so.

Hey Bill that sounds great. Really not that long a wait. but I know U will be on pins and needles until U have it back. Then about the first 500 miles will help U understand it more and more. Good luck and enjoy.

Welcome from the west side! Our Roadstar was not raked for two months. The muscles in my chest were hurting until it was raked.
Looked down to the bottom for the focus groups. Possible ride coming up in mich

I don't have EZ steer on my 2010 Triglide but the 2+2 Handlebars helps alot. that is alot cheaper than having EZ steer installed. Just my 2 cents from Carleton, Mi. neighbor............
