Hey Gang, myself and the better half have made the decision to jump ship into the land of three wheels. We have been on touring bikes for 25 years and are coming off of a 2010 GL1800 and will become owners of a new Tri Glide in a couple of weeks. I love forums over calling the dealership any day and would like to think that I've also contributed to the aid of other riders with "been there, done that" experience. I'll poke around to see if I can find suggestions on getting started as I've been asked not to ask tech questions in my intro. Peace Johnny

Welcome to TrikeTalk Johnny! You have discovered the best forum about everything trike to get all your questions answered.

Welcome from another newbie who recently switched from a 2010 Goldwing to a 2023 Tri Glide.
Fill me in, what do you think? Are you getting used to it already? We are planning a trip from south to north on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm excited but a little apprehensive. More concerned about keeping my wife comfortable. The GL1800 sets a high bar for comfort. If you have any suggestions for must haves before out trip, I'd be interested.
Thanks,

Johnny,

I adjusted mechanically to the difference fairly well. I would recommend practicing going into the corners. The Tri Glide is not as nimble as the Gold Wing.

I used a Garmin on the Goldwing. I'm still trying to figure out the HD navigation.
My wife has her own ride so I don't use the built in intercom.

A couple of things I had to modify on the Tri Glide was the clutch lever and shift lever. I added a PSR adjustable clutch lever. The clutch lever was fine when I took delivery, but after the dealer adjusted the clutch at the 1k service the reach was too far for me. There are multiple ways to adjust the shift lever on the Tri Glide. The lever adjustment on the split shaft were too course. Someone posted to my shift lever thread that you can fine tune the shift lever by adjusting the linkage. That was a big help.

I hope this helps. Please reach out if you have any specific questions.
Chuck

Chuck, I don't have it on either car but was wondering if you had any luck pairing Apple CarPlay to the trike. All I have read about is heat, heat, heat, and how to eliminate it. coming into fall I don't anticipate issues but am looking at long term. Did you sell your GL or add it to your stable? I'm chomping at the bit!!

Johnny,

I am not an Apple guy. I downloaded hundreds of songs to a thumb drive and use that for music. I will try to figure out the HD navigation system. If I can't get it to work I can always use my old Garmin.

I do notice some heat when stopped at red lights on hot days. I haven't decided to do anything about it yet, but if I do I may go with the DK Custom air wings.
I did sell the GL due to lack of garage space.

One thing I forgot to mention previously is I found the backrest to be a big help.

Thanks,
Chuck

HD Backrest? Any trouble selling the GL?

Yeah, I went with the HD backrest without the cable. The HD dealer took the GL in trade.
Sorry to keep bothering you but because you and I had the same bike I’m comparing apples to apples. How do you feel about the handlebar set up on the trike. I spoke with a custom shop owner today and he said that the majority of swaps are for a 12” set of bars. I’m 5’10”. How does the audio system compare and can you Bluetooth with the system?

The bars could be a couple of inches higher, but it doesn't bother me too much. I'm also 5'10". I use the Sena Freewire I had from the GL on the HD. I had to get a HD cable for it. On the GL I had the Bike MP3 device. The thumb drive on the HD is comparable to the Bike MP3 on the GL. You need to get a WHIM module to go totally wireless on the HD. From what I've read if you go the WHIM you lose the ability to have a wired connection.

The one thing I had on the GL that I may not be able to replicate is the cb radio. My wife and I don't do many group rides, so it's probably not a big deal. I have a handheld cb with a lapel mic and ear bud I could use in a pinch. If you can find the HD cb it can be added, but I don't thing they sell them any more.

I am using the stock pipes.
One other modification I made that helped was I installed the DK Customs floor board extensions. These move the floor boards about 3/4" away from motor and pipes. I did this not because of the heat, but instead to get my leg away from the air cleaner.

You sir, have been a WEALTH of knowledge and incredibly helpful. If you can’t tell I’m jacked about getting this trike. I’ll try to leave you alone for a minute

Welcome from SW Ohio, many HD trike owners have changed their bars to the Kromewerks 2plus2 wide sweepers, me included. They make a narrow sweeper, but after looking at the dimensions and the angle it would have my wrists, I decided on the wide sweepers. and I am 5" 9".

I hope this is not an old thread.

I use the Harley system quite a bit. The NAV and the carplay/android auto system. If you have having difficulty or need a little help, come back and ask here - we can help.

Think you will find that the GTS radio system is pretty good.

Johnny - welcome to trike talk.

I am in Michigan -so, not too far from you. Where is Ohio are you?

I will be at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame next week. If you are close, please take the opportunity to stop by our hotel. I can share quite a bit about the GTS radio, NAV system and even get your apple car play working.

Just got back from Harley Homecoming and did the same thing for five or six guys that I ran across

Thank you and I may take you up on your offer once I get the bars in my hands. I am between Toledo and Ft. Wayne IN on the opposite side of the state but I’m not sure where you are in MI so we could be close to one another. Enjoy the R&R Hall of Fame

Your TriGlide should have come with a new Harley headset - have you installed that in your helmet?

If so, he is what I want you to do. Go out to your bike, turn to ACC and let it get set up. Make sure the NAV is up.

Next, go to the settings, go down until you see Projections - make sure that is on.

OK, go to your phone and load a map just like you would if you were in your car. You can do google maps - just have the directions loaded.

Now, plug your helmet into the headset port. Once that is done, plug your phone into the USB cable in the cubby.

Your bike should find apple carplay and ask you to open your phone to load. Once you do that, your maps will appear on your screen.

Once this is installed, it will load automatically the next time.

The one problem with the cubby is it does not hold most phones. So, once you get connected, let's talk and I can share how you can go wireless.

Good luck
