Bought a 2006 VStar that had setup for 18 months. The owner had drain the gas and ran two tanks through, just before I purchase and it ran fine for the last four weeks. Now, if I am at a stoplight and burp the throttle,. it dies. With encouragement it will start. Also, if traveling down the highway at cruising speed and switch gears it will die periodically. I now have a tank of gas with seafoam in it!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

That seafoam should help.....I would put a few tanks of gas with the seafoam through it, maybe try a good injector cleaner. Running it should smooth the issue out. When bikes sit for long periods, they can get a gunk build up in the throttle bodies and injectors. If it has low miles, I doubt it is anything but that.

If the seafoam doesn't take care of it you'll need to pull the carbs and give the jets a good cleaning. It really is more intimidating than hard on that bike. Here is a link to info on how to do most anything to that bike. https://sites.google.com/site/vstar1100kb/home
I don't remember right off what year the Roadies went fuel injection but the first V Star to be injected was the 1300 which I think came out in 07.The liners have always been injected and the 650 and 1100 never were.Didn't ask which one they had if its an 1100 there is a fuel filter under the seat.

Thanks for the help! Didn't think about the fuel filter. I'll change that out. The bike has on 6800 miles on it! It has carburetors.

Just wanted to have two wheels, whenever I get the urge.

Thanks for the link.

No problem.Thats what I've been riding for 4 yrs now so There are a few things I know about it.Honestly your most likely gonna need to just pull the carbs and clean them.Comes with long term parking of bikes and crappy gas.

Is it a 650 or 1100? There are forums for both on Delphi. lots of good info,
particularly in the 1100 forum.
