This is about a hero I know. Maybe not to anyone else, but he did save the life or serious injury to himself and his fellow passenger.
My friend was taking me up the street to pick up my vehicle and as we were pulling out of the driveway, I saw my husband's plane coming in for a landing. I knew he had his lawyer on board and they were coming back from a meeting in Md. Only, he wasn't landing, just circling the airport. I told my friend that I thought that was strange, but not to question my husband, we went ahead down the road to pick up my car. As I was getting my car, I again saw the plane circling the garage where we were. I knew something was amiss. Then I heard the ambulances, police cars and fire trucks passing by on the highway going towards the airport.
I just knew it was about him. As I passed the airport, sure enough all the emergency vehicles were out by the runway. I saw the plane take a low pass like he was going to land, but then pulled up. I turned into the airport road only to have a police officer stop me. I told him that was my husband up there and he immediately gave me an escort to the terminal. I saw right away what was up or I should say not down. The front landing gear wasn't down. For sure was not going to be pretty.
He was circling to burn off fuel. Meanwhile, here comes the Air ambulance helicopter landing mid field. Everyone was hugging me and I could only say, if anyone can do this, George can. After several passes he radioed that he is ready and tells them what he was going to do. He was going to cut the engines right before landing and glide in.
Standing there watching him, I was very scared. He brought that plane down, cut the engines, gently touched with the back wheels and then the front of the plane hit the runway, spun around as he radioed......WE ARE OK!! Everyone clapped. He and his lawyer were out of the plane in seconds. They rushed them up to the terminal, as George jumps out of the truck, whips the sweat off his brow and said......Nothing to it........
What a guy!!!!
