mpg/tire pressure

My new to me 08 GL/Motor Trike with 12K miles gets only 30 mpg at 60 mph and in the high 20's at 70 mph. It has a new air filter and seems to run normally, but I expected better mileage. In my Prius, I keep the tires aired up more than the dealer recommends because I get better mileage. On the trike I have been running at 40 in the front and 24 in the rear as recommended. If I increase the rears to the high 20's would I get better mileage or just a harsher ride?

You might pickup a mile per gal, But you'll pay it back with center tread ware.
And a rougher ride with a lost of wet weather traction.

30 MPG sounds about right. I get a little more (34-35 MPG) on my 82 1100-Interstate; however, I do get 40-42 MPG on my Shadow Aero Trike but that's a 750. Most of us run air pressure in the 42/24 PSI neighborhood as it allows for maximum comfort and tire wear.

40 & 24 on our 06 GW CSC - we normally see 34+ with 2 up and the trailer in tow. 39 is the best we have done without the trailer on a four lane with the cruise set at 65 for a two hundred mile stretch.

i run 38/17 and it rides like a dream 15000 miles with no visable tire wear on rear----original front (Dunlop) was changed at 5000 miles

That sounds a little low to me for a 1800.
I have a 96 1500 with a 06 lehman kit,normal riding 34 to 36 mpg all the time.
On the interstate pulling a escapade se. trailer at interstate speeds 30 mpg.
I think your computer is off on it,s air fuel ratio.

I get about 32 on the VTX1800 trike Champion conv. 28 if I am lucky on the Valk CSC conv. If my memory is correct I got around 32 with my GL1800 Chanpion conv. Your just a little low. It not enough to worry. I also ran 25 psi all around with a Michillian rear mounted backward.

Sounds low mileage to me. I get on a GL1800 2010 Champion after 15 mileage checks an average of between 34 and 35 mpg. This includes both city and highway. I was getting 40mpg before converting to a trike.
