more torque needed for 2015 103 stock triglide motor

I'm dwelling on the experiences of my fellow forum readers to help me cut to the chase scene to get more torque. I'm looking for the simplest, quickest, maybe less costly way to gain enough torque to notice a difference.

When I compare the response of a 2011 triglide to my current 2015 (BOTH STOCK) I could feel no difference. Harley claims torque was increased from 100 at 3250 rpm on pre Rushmore to 105.5 at 3750 rpm for Rushmore high output 103 (2014-2016). Being retired from product testing my first question is why not "apples to apples" meaning why the difference in rpm numbers for the testing results? What is pre Rushmore torque at 3750 rpms? Putting that unusually wierd testing info aside I'm just looking for a boost from 105.5 to maybe 110-112 ft lbs. Also does a torque increase automatically mean more fuel consumption?

To answer your last question.....No' As a matter of fact you might get better MPG...

Just to add, I had a 2011 103......And i did a stage 1...True Duals cat removed and slip-ons Thunder Torque .....Also had the red line calibrated up to 61 hundred RPM's......And it was much more powerful with better MPG then my Stock 2017 107...My now ''Stock'' 2019 114 is even more powerful then either of them and with better MPG..

Hello Greg,

A proper Stage 1 will show a difference. I have a decatted head pipe, a high flow air cleaner with stock slip-ons, External breather system and a tuner. It won't hurt to do what you can to get it to run cooler. DK Custom Products, One of our sponsors is a great resource to find well tested info on simple upgrades to improve power. They have several videos and reports available on this forum as well as their YouTube channel.

I'm no expert, but IMHO I would say the cheapest way to go would be to have headers installed (no cat) with a less back flow set of slip-ons, put a larger air box on it (can use same cover), and pay for a tune. Depending on what dealership you have do all that it will run somewhere between $1,500 and $2,500 depending on pipes. You will notice a little difference plus the TG will run cooler.

Now if you really want to raise the torque and HP there are other options available. For under $6,000 you can have a 128ci (or 130ci if starting with a 114 M8) TG that will bring the front wheel off the ground in first, second, and third.
 
With my 2014 103 I did all the commonly discussed projects to cool the engine temperatures, see all the posts from Kevin from DK. I decatted my stock manifold and installed V&H hi-outputs. I later installed Thunder Torques from DK, noticeably helped. I did a hi-flow air cleaner and went with a FP3 for my tuner. The real kicker was installing a Cycle-Rama CR-570 cam shaft. I did all my own work and the increases in power and lowering of running temperatures are huge compared to stock. Until the cam shaft upgrade the performance gains were,IMOP, minor.

I installed a power commander with a pretty rich tune and it made a difference in power but the mpg suffered, I needed the pulling power because of the trailer. I get about 30 mpg but I don’t care for now. I will trade to a 114 next year or so.
 
For reference, I have a 07 Electra Glide, it came with a 96”, I wanted more power, I installed a Andrews 26h cam set, I got a great bump in power with a power commander. This upgrade in my opinion is about the same as the power I got when I swapped the engine with a 103HO in it. I honestly believe a good cam and tune will make it feel like you have about 5-7 more cubic inches in the engine.

Typically HD's torque and HP numbers are measured at the crankshaft. My 2017 trike with a 107 measured 96 FT LBS of torque on the dyno with a stage one air cleaner, SE mufflers with stock tune. The biggest gain will be a good cam designed for torque, now choosing that cam can be daunting. Your best bet would be to call Bob Woods and talk directly to him, that is what I did when choosing a cam for my 02 Road King. On my trike I watched some cam comparison videos on You Tube from Moonshine HD that were M8 specific.

And I couldn't be happier with both choices, a trike will normally have about ten HP and torque lower than a two wheeler because of the parasitic drag of the rear wheels. Below is my dyno sheet on the trike so notice that at about 2200 rpm it already has a 100 ft lbs of torque compared to what it had in stock configuration.

Best upgrades I did on my 2018 TG were a Screaming Eagle stage 2 Torque cam and a SE smart tuner. One or the other would have been good, but together, WOW. They really woke up that M8 with torque to spare and a small HP increase. Your results may vary on the pre M8 engines.
