Miles on your Trike/Bike

How many miles do you have on your Trike/Bike. What is considered high mileage. I have a 2005 Ultra Classic/Lehman with about 26,500 miles on it. I bought it with 24,500. It had always been serviced at the dealer and had all the service that the manual called for (25,000 service ect) done. He used the HD synthetic oil but he did the oil changes every 5,000 miles as the manual says. I don't want to run it that long before I change it out, around 3,500 miles. I am using Amsoil 20W-50. I do have all the service records. Hopefully It will go much much more.

I think you have a LONG way to go before you need to replace the engine, if you keep up the regular service. My husband put over 70,000 miles on his Street Glide in about just 4 years, but I know several others like Scalp Hunter have done even more and are still going strong!

Like everyone else is saying, there is plenty of miles left. I wouldn't worry about the 5,000 mile oil change interval, changing any sooner than 5,000 miles is tossing away good oil. If you want to know how your oil and engine is doing you could run it to 5,000 miles and grab a sample to have it analyzed, I've done it twice on my 2010 which has almost 18,000 miles on it. Like you I have also switched to Amsoil 20/50.

I just had the 50K maintenance check done on my 2009 Triglide and it's still running strong! The only item showing significant wear were the cam chain tensioners.

My '10 TG is just past the 1 1/2 yr mark with 34,000 miles and running strong. my previous 2-wheel HD Electra Glide had 109,000 miles on it after 6 yrs. I use it for backup now. It is still good enough to go cross country. Both use synthetic oil from HD since 1000 mile break-in period.

I have 55000 on my Electra Glide which started life as a two wheeler in 1995, converted in 2005 with a Champion kit to three wheels. Regular maintainance and syn oil. Still has the orginal belt. Replaced the gaskets on the heads, that has been the only real issue. I think the key is regular maintainance, and keep it away from wannabe amature wrenches.

I won't even post how low the mileage is on my 97 Valk. You guys would probably tar & feather me. But that will hopefully change this coming year!

I had an 08 Ultra with a Lehman kit and traded it in with 42,000 miles for my 2011 TriGlide which has 16,000 miles on it now. I took a big hit because my 08 had 40,000 + miles.

dwhit I think if you had 32,000 on it you would have taken a big hit because it had over 30,000 on it! They make the shoe fit.

You are %100 right. The dealer will tell you anything to steal your bike. If at all possible you are better off to sell yours yourself. My old dealer offered me 13,000 for my 06 Ultra as a trade in on the 09 TG but I was able to sell it for 20,500. You can say I was lucky but it can happen.

64k+ on Snarley, and she is very happy. I use royal purple sun every 5k. When I had the junky HD cam drive system replaced with Andrews geared cams, the crank runout was .002, and old cams showed little wear. She will be around a while.

When I let my 2002 Ultra Glide with 113ci motor go to get the 2009 Road Glide
Lehman conversion it had 85,000 plus miles on it.
My friend ran his 2002 Ultra 115,000 before he got a 2011 TriGlide.

On my old '93 FLHTC, >not a trike< I used old fashion Harley oils and filter. I only got 135,000 miles out of it. It was still doing great, but it looked like crap. All the black was comming off the motor. My local Harley shop gave me a deal on a re-man motor, That was 5 years and 80,000 miles ago. My best Buddy bought the bike from me while I was having the new motor put in. After some leaking troubles after the install, the bike has run great. My Trike had 9,000 miles on it when I got her in June. It's an '01 Ultra. Took me about a month to get it set up for me, and I've been riding as much as I can. I got 14,000 miles on her now. No real issues yet. I use syn oils in all the holes. I do my own changes about every 5K or so.

Just under 30,000 on the '09 Tri-Glide, Slightly over 6,000 on the '11 Tri-Glide. My '92 Springer had 88,000 when the speedo broke, rode her for 3 more years before I sold her and bought the '03 Dyna. Dyna had 67,000 when I traded her in for the '08 E-Glide. Almost 44,000 on the E-Glide when she went away for the '11 Tri-Glide. Only engine work I've ever done was on the Springer, and that was all 'go fast' stuff. In most cases if you leave them alone, service them regularly, and don't ride like an idiot they are good for 100K.

Good Luck!

The other side of the coin is, choose your performance parts wisely, build it correctly and most of all make sure the tune is good and you'll be able to put just as many miles on as a stock one. I know a guy who built a 120 road it for 45,000 miles then pulled it apart to inspect for any abnormal wear, he found nothing, it looked like the day he built it. The 95" engine I pulled out of my 06 Ultra has 30,000 miles on the build, it made 104/100 on the dyno and would return and average of 43 - 45 mpg. Until I bought my Triglide the 06 was what I travelled on, I could run that engine for hours on end at 80 mph without a hiccup. This the top of the piston @ 30,000 miles on the build.
