Loosing oil thru air breather

Taking the triglide to the dealer Saturday. Service manager ask about my mileage. Have right @ 28,000 on 2009 TriGlide. He says it could be bad exhaust valves. Also for the recall. Any thoughts on it?

This may be obvious but alot of folks that report this run the oil level to high. About 3.5 quarts in my 2008 FLHTP, 103". And the same in my wifes 2011 103" Tri-Glide. Give or take an ounce. I think the manual's kinda vary between the two. Slightly.

Anyway heres to hoping it's that simple.

Ok. Thanks, I hope its that simple. The first time it did this was after the dealer changed the oil. It puked out about a half ounce of oil and has been leaking a little bit every since then. I have to clean the K&N after every long ride.

Sounds like lowering the oil level a half a qt should solve it, bad exhaust valves wouldn't cause it. The reason it happens is from the crank case either not having enough volume to handle the air produced by the pistons pumping up and down and a slight amount of pressure from the combustion process, some other causes can be a bad umbrella seal and at times oil pump alignment. In severe cases it can be caused by more than normal blow by, this can be checked with a leak down test. When you run the oil a half a qt low it allows more room for air in the crank case.

Yea, had the same problem with my 2011 TRI-Glide service said when it stops blowing check the oil level and if not more than half a quart low clean her up and that is where your level should be. Said mark the stick at that level and when you change oil next time leave it at that new mark.

Had the same thing with my 2011. Puked out 1/2qt. The Harley dealer told me to run 31/2qt. Haven't had any problems since.

i too experienced that problem once too ,found that when i changed the oil i put 4 qrts in you only put 3 1/2 qrts with filter change , i think its because of there's still some oil in the oil cooler, try taking some out and bet it well quit good luck its also 2010 with a 103

I've been told by the dealer that the bike will find it's "happy place" in regards to the oil level. You can continue to add oil to where it's full and it will always blow the oil out until it finds it's "happy place". Usually if you have a new bike, check the oil level after it's first good ride. At that time that level will probably be where it will always need to be.
