Thanks

Hey Snow...My 2011 did that also, but stopped when I got the most recent update loaded into the bike. Have you got that done? That ECM update will change the way the motor sounds and runs. On mine, it stopped the pinging and the lifter noise.

Thanks for the info I have had the update helped on the pinging but lifter noise seemed to get worse going to take it to harley could have bad lifters they quit making noise after a few minutes but still sounds bad. Makes me mad this should not happen to a new bike

You have a lifter bleeding down, it shouldn't be happening at 8,000 miles. Sad fact is Harley Davidson is sourcing a lot of its parts from the lowest cost producer, they made some changes in the lifters not long ago.

use a qt of mistery oil to flush out any varnish in the valves. as others have stated. if problem presist don't hesitate to change them out. then also adj. pushrods would be nice then too. good luck

Just had my early '10 TG in for 30K service at Tucson HD. Was talking with a guy same year and color as mine. Late '10 production. he said his engine needed to be rebuild at 6000 miles due to poorly fitted top end (valves and such). he has another buddy with a '11 TG that had same problem and had to be rebuilt also. apparently they were having some issue following tolerances.

With only 8,000 miles on his engine I would be surprised if he has a varnish issue.

I know there have been issues with valves, some of the head porters are finding the exhaust valve is gauled in the guide and have to be beat out.

Make sure you get those lifters checked out. I had the roller bearings on one lifter go out on my 2011 tri-glde. It took out the rear cam & oil pump. So don't mess around with them. I've also had valve train noise since the engine was built. I have adjustable push rods too. That is what you get when you put alot of hp in. My lifter noise lasted about 15mins. Then all hell broke loose. I only had about 7800mi.

You can have HP and reliability plus piece and quiet, you have to be selective on the components of your build. The little 95" build I had in my 06 Ultra made 104 hp 100ft/lb torque and carried me on several long trips without a hickup. In 2008 I took that bike to SD which was a 3,400+ mile round trip, I ran it at 85+ mph for hours on end in the 95 + degree heat with no problems. I pulled that engine and when I took the heads off to inspect the cylinder walls and piston tops I saw nothing out of the ordinary, the pistons had about 0 carbon on them. I'm sure the 120" engine I'm building for the same bike will be just as reliable.

At 2,000 miles, I built a 88ci 2002 Ultra into a 113ci "stump puller" with 110 hp and 140 ft lbs of torque at 3,000 rpm. Rode it another 80,000 miles 2 up, loaded down, pulling a 12 foot long 400 lb trailer.
Never a issue other than normal maintainece.

You can build big power HD's that are buillet proof and last, its all about the parts and the builder and mostly the tunner.

Oh and lets don't forget the the driver, most people on HD's today don't have a clue on riding a big twin, they "lug" them around in the "wrong gear", and "bitch" about heat and no power, and they are the reason they break.

Hear that about lugging the motor. Why are so many people afraid to downshift. The motor can't do miracles. You aren't going to hurt that motor. Getting back to who built the motor for me. The dealership did before I ever picked up the bike. Drove it to California in Aug. & back to Indiana.Used over 2qts of oil. Come to find out someone installed the 2nd ring upside down.I'm sure you all have heard my story before.Anyway, they told me I would hear valve train noise.Never heard it on my 2004 ultra. And I have adjustable pushrods. These people on here cripe cause no power in 6th. DOWNSHIFT!!!!
