Leak ???

Just got back home from about a 1K ride into the mountains and back. Noticed a few drops of oil below my 2011 tri glide.
Put it up on my lift and found a generous coating of oily substance mainly on right side just back of brake pedal on the frame. Watched it for a couple more days and the drip, although infrequent, continued.
Dropped it off at my home HD shop. They degreased it and rode it 23 miles, they said, and ran it several more times to heat it up etc.
Punch line:\Can't find ANY leak. Also let it set for 3 days.
Can this possibly be oil from the trip??

I would check the oil cooler gasket first...Very common to leak there,,my '11 did..replaced under warrenty

Similar discovery on my 2012 TG. Mechanic said leak was from the chrome cover "Six Speed." The lower bolts of the cover are shared with the exhaust support. He re-torqued all the bolts and no more leak. I am not sure if this is your situation, but it may be worth a look. Good luck.

My 2009 TriGlide has leaked twice from the gasket on the oil cooler.

Yup... oil plate adapter. It's either the gasket held down by two screws on the top of the adapter or the "freeze" type plug on the front of the adapter is leaking.

Very common issue... Had to get mine fixed twice in one week. First time didn't take.

Don't worry-it's normal for HD's to mark their territory by dropping oil ocassionally!

I've also seen the adapter warp, plus have read where others have had the gasket between the adapter and the oil filter boss needing replaced.

You did not say if you had a stock air cleaner. If you have a after market check to see if your filter is oily might be coming out your breather.

Heck I have had the oil pan bolts loose,transmission .bolts loose and now there is another leak which is my winter project to fix..

My 2011 Tri Glide was leaking oil at the same spot as yours. Culprit, lower trans cover bolts loose. Dealer removed the bolts, cleaned and reinstalled with thread sealer...no more leak. Was told it was a common problem. All fixed under warranty.

is this from the heat these bikes create causing these trikes to leak??
wonder if its causing the thread locker to heat up and vibrate loose the hardware??
I have owned a 96 and a 2000 ultra and never had this many leaks on any of my older harleys..

Mine is leaking from the lower trans/exhaust bolts right now. Waiting on appointment to have them checked and torqued. No combination of universal/extension would allow me to get a bit on the bolts.

I used a ball end allen wrench and a cut off allen wrench to tighten the bolts without having to take off the exhaust

My 2012 just came out of the shop for the exact same problem after a 3 K ride. Two "O" rings and a gasket at the oil cooler and no more leaks.

Wobray, Sprinkle a little baby powder where you think the leak is and go for a ride. You'll know pretty quickly where the leak is.
