jeff and elise in the USA

at this scenic lookout we met quite a few riders braving the heat.. all of them foreigners, probably because only a foreinger would be stupid enough to be riding out here LOL. they all looked close to passing out. we on the other hand were fairly comfortable.. we had named our hydration vests majic vests by now. they looked at us like we were mad because we had jackets on.. till we showed them the majic vests

you might need to enlarge this one... 2 jet fighters flew extremely close overhead as we reached the top. Man those guys can fly...awesome

all is good. the trike and trailer are in los angeles waiting to be shipped to australia. we had purchased so much stuff i had to fly home with 2 large suitcases and carry on, as the trailer and the trike boot etc are full. we packed the non essentials in the trike and trailer as we wont miss the contents in the next 6 weeks. trike survived the entire trip without any hassles except the handbrake coming apart. this was fixed in vegas under warrantee when the service was done.

mammoth lakes is a very pretty town, but my mind was set on a good feed and something to drink other than water. both needs were satisfied at Thaid Up a local thai restaurant.

sometimes you just know your going to get in trouble, but you just cant resist doing it..
sorry Elise, but you werent here to stop me posting the next pic...

i was keen to see a real bear. so far bears had been elusive. someone had left an Esky (well thats what we call them) plastic box you keep food cold in... at the bottom of the stairs. i assumed whoever owned it would be back for it as it was a good one. but they didnt return for it, and at 3 am a bear found it. i ran out to see it and got a couple of pictures, the first disapointing because even though the flash disturbed the bear, it hardly shows up in the pic. the second it was headding off toward the fence and making an escape. i was and still am happy i got to see it.

my guess is that yellowstone has been fire ravished in recent years...lots of dead trees over vast areas. it has a beauty for sure, but i found it overcrowded and difficult to get around. rangers driving well below the speed limits despite signs telling slow drivers to use pull over areas made it even worse.

about 1988
dry and the policy was to let it burn.
almost burned the whole place down
before they did something.
