This weekend, I installed a “Heat Shield Liner Kit” from a company called DEI (Design Engineering Inc, Inc).

I first heard about this product from one of the videos that “Doc Harley” (from Low Country Harley) did and really peeked my curiosity on this product.

My concern: where is the heat going?
Are these possibly going to make the motor hotter if it’s deflecting the heat away from the legs? Where is the heat going then?

I called DEI and talked to both a Rep and actually one of their engineers. They both stated: “These will NOT make the motor any hotter than what it is… this product is designed to not only insulate the heat away from our legs… but our header pipes will actually EXIT the heat faster out of the pipes”.

What’s nice: these fit inside our heat shields, and are not even visible!!
These are not a “header wrap”… they are inner heat shield liners/deflectors.

All of us Trike guys are always trying to do many things to help with heat, and there are indeed quite a few products out there to help.

Now at this time, I will say that I do NOT want to add an auxiliary “oil cooler”, ….. and personally I just do not like the looks of the “love jugs” type of fans on the motor, nor do I like the firewall mount fan either. (In fact I hear more negative than positive on these type of fans) … I know these are indeed other ways to help with the heat that some may like, … I just don’t want/prefer them).

Note: Personally my Tri Glide is indeed “warm/hot” in this area, but actually not as bad as many others have expressed on theirs…. So again, these should really help since my trike has already been decatted, and will be “tuned” this spring, which will even help more.

It’s a Harley… a Harley will get hot. (That’s no secret). But these will definitely help and most likely (in my case) be exactly what I am looking for. I’ll find out for sure this spring/summer and will report back in a few months from now.

Hope the info and video helps.

Here are the two links from “Doc Harley” at Low Country Harley and his YouTube channel on these… the second video is also a review after they were installed.

This is where I got the info from. I ordered my kit the very next day!
This is Great info!!!!

First video to watch:

Second video to watch (with review):

I forgot to add this info: …….
The video I did only shows the main three pieces on the RH side (both headers & the Cat area)… but the kit does indeed include a smaller forth piece (which goes under the belt and turns out back on the LH side).

so it is a 4 piece kit.

Here’s pics of the fourth piece, before & after:

Again, a very nice kit, reasonably priced, and not even visable!
I’m looking forward to spring time!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
