I choose NOT to ride in the rain (as in never leave home in the rain) if I don't have to. My reason is not because I don't like to get wet, although I don't, but more because I know that when I drive my car or truck and its raining I have a more difficult time seeing. So, I ask, why would I want to go out in the rain and drive around with people who are already having a tough time seeing. That would place me in even more in danger, right?

Am I wrong in my thinking here? .... OK, blast away. :cxtv:

Sounds good to me... Getting caught in the rain when already on the road is one thing. Leaving home in the rain, on purpose, is another... Just my $0.02.

If I am on a trip or just out and it rains I will ride, but if it is raining or going to rain I take my truck. At this point in my life I get to do what I want and riding in the rain is not one of them.

That's sound judgement to me. I rode to work which was 48 miles one way for 20 years. I claimed rain or shine but the fact was, if it was raining in the morning I took the cage. If it started during the day no biggy. I too couldn't justify purposely starting off in it. 9 times out of 10 I'd run into fog anyway so it was not the getting wet part. I was prepared for that. It was the starting off in it I just didn't like. Heck I rode in snow and ice a few times. Not recommended either.

I think most of subscribe to that same sentiment. I don't like to start off wet. If it rains while riding well ok stuff happens. The only bad thing is when you are on a trip and must ride because of scheduling. It just seems to color the whole day. WE had to ride in the rain one day enroute to Laconia for the rally. Who knew Upstate New York could be so cold ?

Left my house at 4:30am this morning knowing I was heading towards a wall of water. Hit it 20 miles later. A little better seeing once it got lighter. I was slowed down to a speed that I could see at. On/off all the way to PA.
The point...A wet day on the road is better than a dry day in the office. The other point...I may be a little tetched in the head area. Or so my wife says.:qpnmt:

I ride in the rain, Heck In the winter I ride in the snow, But that doesn't make me a better rider then someone who doesn't, Just makes me a little afflicted .. Besides it's all mind over matter.... If you don't have a mind it don't matter... :xzqxz:

Pretty much agree - If it rains while on a ride, no big deal. We have excellent raingear. We have left in the rain, but not for just a pleasure jaunt.
A few years ago we left in the rain to go on our annual trip to Minnesota. Going through
Kansas City about noon an a Friday, along with the music I heard chuckling in the helmet speakers that wasn't in the music. Figured out it was Gloria - She said, "Here we are riding in the rain for the last 3 1/2 hours, we're in Kansas City noon traffic, we have a little more than 6 hours to go, we don't know how long the rain will last and I am having a great time." It rained all the way from south of Joplin to Ames, IA. that trip, but it still was a good ride. Would we have preferred no rain? Most definitely. Did it lessen the enjoyment? Nope, just another campfire story to tell.

I don't start out from home in the rain for a different reason, I'm lazy... I've figured out that I'm too lazy to intentionally start out in the rain on the trike and then have to spend two hours cleaning and detailing it when I get home. I don't mind riding in the rain on a road trip because the trike has to be cleaned after the trip anyway. There I've said it, " I'm lazy."

I definitely won't leave if it's raining or going to rain. I've ran into some rain drops heading home and I hurry and get the trike put away. I've been looking at the forecast for my safety course and there's a chance for a couple showers in the afternoon, they say bring rain gear as they don't cancel unless there is close lightning. I'm hoping the forecast changes as I prefer no rain.

Put me in the no starting out in the rain. Of course, if I get caught out in it keep on going. If the chance is too high then I take the cage.

Seems we're in agreement on the issue. If I need to run to the store or have a volunteer day scheduled to work and it's raining, I'll take the car. (Note: I've only driven the cage about 500 miles so far this year)

If I have a day trip or long road trip, it doesn't matter what the weather is or will be later on. I always carry rain gear in the tour pack, and when heading to the mountains, a light jacket. One trip last year it was 90 deg. through Georgia and 55 to 60 in the mountains. Then it started raining when I got to the Blue Ridge Pkwy!
