If you were to do it again, how would you build/buy it?

I think I've got the best of both worlds, the stability of a frame mounted fairing +5 degree rake with 103" engine with mild mod on a Harley RoadGlide. From what I've been told, I do have the first Hannigan Roadglide Transformer? not that it matters but just saying! I had 62K miles on it before triking it. Have 1,200 miles on it as a Trike and learning everyday. Love the IRS better than HD Triglide. JMHO:pepper:

Hey Clint, did you get the 30T counter installed? How is it working out in 6th gear?

I agree with you,Will. Your trike is one of the nicest out there, today. It really turned out awesome!

I thought I was going to let our Harley dealer perform the pulley swap but after they quoted me $530 to do the work,I've decided to let GMR Performance in Fort Worth perform the work. GMR is only about 120 miles from here so if the weather will cooperate,I'll probably ride down there,Monday or Tuesday.

I think you're better off having Steve do the work vs some dealership hack.

I am doing it...

It really depends on what kind of riding you want to do... Dayrides or cross-country? And wrenching...

Had a 2000 Ultra Classic. I put a DFT kit on it in 2004. We both loved that thing. As time went on, power became a real issue, reliability came into question.

Bought a Boss Hoss, love the stupid thing, but reliability is a major issue.

After the BH, I just couldn't ride the 2000 Ultra anymore, it seemed so small, underpowered, and all you did was shift the bloody thing.

Traded the HD in for a Motortrike factory built 2014 Rocket III. Holy crap. 2300cc 146hp... I'd classify this as a good bar-hopper, good for day rides, unless you're younger, maybe... It's a "Touring" bike, but the Brits have a pretty different opinion of that compared to the those of us in the US.

So... wanting comfort, reliability... something we can put miles on without worry, enter a 2015 Gold Wing, putting on a Hannigan kit, add Hannigan trailer, hopefully the last one I get. (Umm... because it will last so long without issues, not because I'm going to croak soon, that is...)

If you've got to stay with HD, you couldn't go wrong with Hannigan or DFT...

Glad to see you posting over here,Pat.
I agree with your thoughts on Boss Hoss.

Clint44: If you are thinking of upgrading your engine to something larger (I thought I remembered you said that), I'd do that first before I had the 30 tooth sprocket done to see how you like it. I made the change to 30, then did the 120ST. Riding mine the other day made me wonder about changing it back to the 32T. Plenty of torque with a larger engine, and the rpm's would be about 2,7xx at 70 mph instead of 3,000. It's not a huge deal, but for me that lowers the sound of the exhaust for those long trips.

3rdwheel, I have a 110 with TTS-100 cams in my 2013 TRI. I went back to the 32 tooth as you are thinking about and absolutely love it. I can cruise in 6th gear at 65-70 with the control on and it nevers misses a beat. It will pull up hills without downshifting and maybe loose 1 to 2 MPH as it climbs the hill and accelerates back to the set speed before the crest of the hill. I have made 3 trips to the Georgia, N/S Carolina mountain area and a long trip up to Nova Scotia Canada area from Key Largo Fl. all since I have made the mods so I have a lot of time on this setup. The trike has 30k on her and 25k+ of that was after the mod. It works great. The power/torque comes in at around 2200 rpms and it pulls all the way to redline of 6000 rpms. You do not due a lot of shifting when you are touring. Try it you will like it I believe. By the way I purchased my 32 from Mike. Thanks Mike.

If I had the funds for a bigger engine,I would leave the gearing alone as you both mention. Our trike's 103 is pretty peppy for me now though so the new gearing should make it even more so.

I test road Tri Glides from 09-13 and did not care for the steering...test rode a 14 and wanted it on the spot...waited another year model in hopes of a solid red...Miss Mysterious is my first trike and my last Harley...

Engine Upgrade

I have a 2007 Street glide with the CSC Daytona conversion. Independent suspension is one of the key features with the extended wheel base, it has a great ride. Converted it in 2010 and it has 83K miles. After all of these miles, there is 3 things I would like to change. The tail lights (they could be changed), the mufflers (CSC had to use them because of the way they run the exhaust around the independent suspension), and if your going into a strong headwind, it's under powered. So I'll live with the tail lights, wish I could find different mufflers that would work, and I'm having a 120 engine installed this winter. With that said there is no denying the styling of those Hannigan and Road smith conversions. I don't think a person could go wrong. Ride Safe !! Merry Christmas!

Kruzer,

Do you have any pic's of your mufflers and offsets installed on your trike.

I had to have a local muffler shop build me a set of 4" offsets with long slide connections to allow me to use any set of touring slip-on mufflers.

it cost me $80.00.

I also had to trim my headpipe 1.25" on the right side and .75" on the left.

PM me sometime and I will walk you through the process...if I can do it...anybody can

Sloride, I don't have any pictures and it's in storage getting the new engine installed. I'll mention it to my tech, who is an Ace. he said he was going to look at it to see if something could be done. But I will tell him what you did and we'll see? Thanks for the input.

:Agree: I've had a 2012 and now a 2015 TriGlide and I would go for another if the time arrives, however I do wish the factory would build a Road Glide Tri. If they would build it I would own it.

Which is precisely why I converted my old tour glide.

one big advantage is an over-all 9 degree rake and it responds and out steers the tri-glide hands down. I don't even use a steering damper.

I recently installed a new set of heavy duty progressive front fork springs and it really did upgrade the ride.

I like the handling I get with the champion straight axle kit. It's a little rough in town but smooth's right out on the highway wich is what I built it for.

the difference between a good trike and a bad one depends entirely on the integrity of it's builder!

I have no problem owning a conversion and would go with a conversion again because I can work on it myself.
Building your own isn't rocket science if you have some mechanical ability and are able to follow instructions.
It's about 90% common sense but people are to afraid to try it themselves.
If you find a reputable conversion shop there are no draw backs to a conversion versus a factory built once the warranty period is over.

A motor manual in my hands is worth more than a parts changer in a Harley shop trying to do the work of a mechanic.ThumbUp
