How ridged will the motortrike IRS go?

I am considering purchasing the motortrike advernturer IRS and was wondering how ridged the suspension will go when presurized to its full extent?. Does it compare to a ridged axle trike?<br />

Does anyone have the adventurer IRS with the seperate hand brake?<br />
Is this seperate from the the hydrolic system eg operated by a seperate cable.<br />
<br />
I will be importing the trike back to the UK where all trikes have to have this facility.<br />

Translation problem, maybe.
If you want to know if an IRS can be set up to corner as well as a solid axle trike.
My opinion is almost! In some cases, Yes. In some cases IRS can corner better than the Solid. Depends on which brands you are comparing.
As far as using the word rigid, you can set most any brand to where the ride is quite hard but, I would not think that would be something one would want to do.
A general statement is Solid axle trikes corner best and IRS trike ride smoother.
Does this help or have I missed your point completely?

I wanted to know how it compares to a ridged axle on bends. I ride in Europe where there really are twisties. It isn't unusual to go for 50-100 miles of really twisty roads. My last solo , a gsx1400 returned 2000 miles for the rear tyre. The centre of the tyre was less than half down but the edges where gone- expensive! My present trike has 35000 miles on the rear and has still some tread left, had to change the front at 30000 though, and I still get the thrill of the solo. <br />

I wanted to know if hardening the suspension produced the effect of making the handling similar to a ridged axled trike. From your reply it seems that it isn't quite the case but near enough. Our intentions this year are to ride from the Mexico boarder up the Alaska and back, eventually riding back to Atlanta. <br />
Our previous journeys in the USA/Canada (twice, once from Atlanta to Cal: the other California-Canada-east coast) has been done on a ridged axles Eurowing.

We found that a bit hard on the bumpy roads but great here on our mountain rides. So looking for a compromise it seems that the motortrike would suit the bill. It is also one of the three companies that produce trikes with seperate hand brakes which are essential for importation into Europe where it it required by law.<br />

I ride nearly constant twisties with my Motor Trike IRS, and my Wife has a Rigid Aero Trike. Havin' ridden several IRS and Rigid Trikes in the past year or so, I PREFER the IRS's handling, even in the very, very twisty stuff, and even when ridden very aggressively. In my opinion, it has more "feel" to it than the rigids, and much easier to feel that "break point" where traction starts to leave.

Mine loses it's "safety feel" for me when You put the air pressure around 60+....I generally run about 45 with a SUPER BRACE, and ran 35 without it.....just another 2 cents.....;):Biker:

With my MT I add air for the twisties, and let it out for hi-way cruse to suite the need and ride. The MT bags are rated at 100 #'s, but will blow if too much more is added.

I have been in contact with Champion for some time . They also told me they could provide a trike with a hand brake. On Thursday they informed me it was still underdevelopment? Below is the e-mail I received.<br />

Seems there is a bit of confusion going on.
 
Must be close to finished, as they said they would air freight it to me! My kit arrives in about four weeks. I thought it was being sourced from elsewhere. However, Champion design well, so that is a good sign. 28C today. Life is hard with all this sunshine!:wtg::yes:

Great video. Thanks for sharing it. I've always wanted to visit some of the "other part of the world" but will probably not happen. The only fear I would have is driving in countries where they drive on the wrong side of the road for me.
 
Beautiful, thanks for the Alpine tour. Man you need to get a seat belt for that trike . We have some switchback here in Conn. but they are rare. We have 2 that are a few miles from me that you can look to your left and see the guy behind you , but those road out there are full of the hairpin turns. Did I see the Matterhorn or was it's little brother ?
 
So glad you enjoyed the slide show. I also love riding in the USA , enjoyed route 36 and Bear Tooth pass etc but I have to say that nothing compares to the mountain roads in the alps.
It's quite amazing how many riders from the USA we have met during our rides. Very few visit the mountains of Spain though. I live in the south east parts of Spain where we can ride all year, A littel hot in the summer but Goldwings are so good at coping with high temperatures aren't they

Has anyone out there done the trip from California to Anchorage ( Alaska) What are the roads like for a trike? Just a bit worried about the condition of the roads. We found some Interstate roads quite hard on the suspension ( ridged axle) last time.
