Had some light metal on metal scarring from a worn out pad on my right rear rotor and am looking for guidance with removal before I jump into it.

I contacted Roadsmith an was told the rotors can be turned. A replacement from them runs $198 + $20 shipping.

Any rotor can be mounted to a lathe and machined, that does not mean it is a good idea

Unless a machinist is very good at what he does it should be left to a brake professional

Appreciate the insight. I was just relaying what the tech at Roadsmith told me.

Have had many car and truck rotors turned over the years with no issues. Can you share why the VW rotors on the Roadsmith would be any different?

Looking for help on pulling the rotors. Have you replaced yours?

They are no different and as Roadsmith told you, their rotors can be turned, and any well-established, reputable shop that is known to do quality brake work will have a brake rotor lathe and can turn your rotors with no issue.

Good to know. There were a number of comments on other threads that cautioned against turning them and they should just be replaced. That's a $500 bill just for the rotors. Like I said there's just some minor scrapping on one side of the right one. So I'll have it checked out and try turning them if possible.

Have found almost nothing on the removal and replacement process and no YouTube vids. I'll take some photos and do a write up when I'm done.

What I'm looking for is help with the "how to stuff", torques specs for the axel nut, "be carefuls" and so on if there are any?

I'm not positive that they are VW rotors according to Roadsmith. The calipers and pads are confirmed to be VW but the rotors appear to be proprietary and only available from Roadsmith. That would account for their high price. Replacement rotors from my experience normally cost about 1/2 as much.
