Help with hitch choice please

Hi, I am new to the forum and have just bought a triglide. This has been imported to the UK. I want to fit a hitch but don't know which one will fit my trike. I have measured the hole centers underneath and they are 6" left to right and 9" front to back. The trike is a 2010 model but I think the backend is 2011. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I have tried asking some suppliers with no joy.
Do I go for the 2009 & 2010 or the 2011 & Newer type ? If anyone has a hitch with these hole centers, which one of the above is it ? Many Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Triker, I have a Bushtec hitch, they can be seen at bushtec.com under hitches menu. Bushtec hitches are made to fit the triglide so you wont have any problems with their hitches.

I have the pin hitch there is no slap of the trailer with that type of hitch. I dont even know it is behind me, I must admit it is a bit scary wondering if the trailer is still behind me.

Whatever your choice good luck!

Thanks for the info, I have had a look on the bushtech site and they also have 2 choices for the triglide 2009 / 2010 and 2011 & newer. Did you buy the 2011 type and if so what are your hole centers ? Thanks in advance. I will have to pay shipping from the US to the UK and don't want to get the wrong one and have to pay to ship it back.

yes, I got the 2011 hitch, I'm not sure what the hole centers were, but it bolted right up through the holes. For the hitch to work, you have to remove the 2 rear muffler hanger bolts and then replace themm with the bolts that are supplied with the hitch.

Bushtec really seems to have the hitch setup down to a tee! They have an email system the you can use, ask them all your questions they will have the answers!

If you have a 2010 buy the 2010- 2009 model hitch ..the 2011 on up hitch will not fit on your 2010 tri glide..

There are several other hitch makers out there..MC hitch..Check ebay as there are some on the also..

Hope that helps..

TrikerRice. welcome aboard. My first question is why do you think you have a 2011 back end? If it is titled a 2010 then it should be a 2010 all the way from the front to the back.

The guy that I bought the Triglide off in the UK imports crash damaged harleys and he said he had had to put a completely new backend on the trilke when he re-built it and that it was a 2010 bike with a 2011 backend. That is why I am not sure which hitch to order because all I have to go by are the hole centers on the trike. I know it is a little confusing but this is all I have to go on

TrikerRice, here is a picture of two different rear body mounting frames, one is for 2009/2010 and the other is for 2011/2012. I've indicated with orange arrows the difference between the two frames. Hope this will help you.

TrikerRice, you might check with a fabricator. Making a hitch might be cheaper than this cost + shipping, then to find out you have the wrong hitch on the other hand, the diagrams might solve your problem. Good luck.

The hitches bolt directly to the sub frame cross members between the frame rails. Unless the seller replaced the entire rear frame section I'd figure it for a 2009.

TrikerRice,

First off, Welcome to the forum!

You will be correct in assuming it is the newer style rear. I had mine replace last year due to it being damaged. The 2009 body is no longer, so they had to replace the sub frame etc with the 2011 parts.

Wow!!
This is probably the shortest post I have or ever will write!
"The best trailer hitch made for bikes and trikes without a doubt is HITCH DOCTOR."
No, I don't work for them, I'm just a customer that has clocked just under 100K miles since 2003 with most of them long distance rides pulling either my Aspen Ambassador camper or my Komfort Kamp Excel cargo trailer.
Another HITCH DOCTOR trailer hitch is on the way here for my 2012 Triglide.
