Hello from SENM

Hello to all,

Just signed up here and hope to become acquainted soon. Looks as if there are lots of things to be learned here, as well as plenty of opinions to share. I'll try to lurk and listen and see how things are done here, but I will also probably feel compelled at some point to share my own thoughts and opinions as well. I love to learn new things, and no doubt that will be possible here.

My wife and I have been riding for quite a few years now. I've been riding since the late 60's one way or another. We bought a lightly used '79 Wing in 1980 and began our touring experiences then. Didn't get as much as we'd have liked, since we had growing kids at home. Sold the Wing in the late 80's cause we couldn't ride it much and keep up with the boy's athletic schedules. Got back aboard on a Yamaha V-Star in the late 90's and progressed to a Royal Star Venture that we rode lots of miles during which we made lots of memories.

Began to see the need for three wheels on the ground as we got older, and had the opportunity to buy a '97 GL1500 with a CSC kit installed that belonged to a good friend and neighbor's wife after he passed away. We rode that machine for nearly three years and loved it. We recently bought a lightly used '06 gold GL 1800 and had a RoadSmith IRS kit installed on it. We absolutely love it so far. We expect to be putting some serious miles on it very soon.

We are fortunate to be able to ride here in SENM pretty much all year round, although we have spells of winter and cold weather during that season. We also have to deal with lots of wind during the spring, and that can take the fun out of things, but overall, we don't have to stay off the bike for too long at a time.

Thanks for having me here ... I look forward to the experience!

Welcome from the Great State of Texas! Are you in the Las Cruces area? I lived in El Paso for 15 years and spent lots of time around there. If you don't have a New Mexico chapter of Trike Owners International, we would be honored if you joined the Texas chapter until your state has one. No dues, no officers, no riding requirements; just a bunch of folks who enjoy trikes and the freedom they offer. See the TOI-TX thread on the Forum.

Glad to have you on board!!

Welcome, Pudge! Hope you join in the fun and discussions a lot. Glad you joined us...... and envious of your year-round riding!

Thanks for the welcomes! It'll take me a bit to find my way around this house. Blondie, I live in the southeast corner and very nearly in Texas. The small community I live near is 15 miles from the State Line in Lea County. We live east of Roswell. We spent several years in Alamogordo in the 70's. I was a NM State Police Officer for many years, and so became pretty familiar with most all the state. NM is truly the Land of Enchantment, since there are so many varied types of landscape and culture represented here.

But we also love riding down to the Hill Country and spending time there. Hope to be down toward Fredericksburg during the flower season this spring. Got lots of friends in Texas ... eastern NM and west Texas have more in common with each other than we do with the other parts of either State. Great folks everywhere though, and especially among those of us who ride.

Nana, I just can't imagine having to put my ride up on blocks for three to six months of the year. As I said, we have spells where riding is not much fun or impossible, but they normally don't last too long. If we can get past the wind that's happening right now, we'll be gettin' in some miles on this new machine.
