Hey everyone PLEASE keep an eye on yourself and others with this heat.

Last night I was working out in the shop with my son.
We lift weights, Box and I do "Cane-Fu".

Around 10:30 or so last night I started sweating extremely bad, I started getting dizzy and shaky.

I went into the cool house and passed out/fainted.

Before you think it, I only had 2 beers and a couple tokes on a bowl, so that was not it.

I also drank lots of water.

My blood sugar was 123 so that was not it either.

It felt like I was extremely drunk.

Anyway, the Ol'Lady made me drink Gatorade and lay down in bed.

This morning I feel hung over even though I did not drink enough for that.

I must have been heat exhaustion.

We workout 3 or 4 times a week. The next day is tomorrow. (no beer during the week though)

Tomorrow night I will need to keep a better eye on myself

Fowler, Maybe 20 years ago I had a similar experience. We were playing softball in the hot sun after having a beer and hitting a J twice, but never passed out. About 3 innings later I started feeling better but sure did down a lot of water between innings.

Get your Heine to the ER. I know heat exhaustion very well having treated men in desert conditions. 24 years ago I had the same symptoms you describe while working on my property. I drove myself( dumb) to the ER and found that it was a heart attack. No I was not out of shape. I could run 2 miles over rough terrian under full combat load. You just never know.....

This is going to sound dumb, what color was your pee?

When you stop sweating you are already in trouble

Roger that, happened to me at jump school- Georgia, in July- 90 degree heat and I swear that much humidity! Was "listing" a good 20-25 degrees during a run and felt the medics grab my shoulder and say "sir, you're coming with us." Gatorade and a quick IV....then the dreaded "you have to repeat the entire week." ☹️

I keep water near by, when walking in this heat...
BUT
I also keep beer near by, when NOT walk'n, or I'm work'n on my bike (in the garage)

I ended up in the ER yesterday.
In the morning I went for a normal Podiatry appointment at VA. They took my BP it was around 80/40. They did not say anything about it. I went through the appt and drove home. I started not feeling well on the way home. Got home and lied down. The Ol'Lady made me call the VA nurse. They told me to get into the ER. I was there for about 6 hours.

They just told me to take it easy for a few days

I'm at home now, my BP is around 101/66. I am on BP meds for high BP.

The doctor did not say this but I assume the low BP is due to the heat, weight loss, not eating and all the exercise I have been doing.
I think I don't need the BP meds any more, I need to watch myself in the heat, drink lots of water and no beer while working out in the heat.

I'm not taking my BP meds for a bit to see how that affects me.

BTW.... my pee was and is clear

I had a similar situation happen to me in the Army while doing some training. The training was a couple/few months long. I was loaded down with equipment and dove into a foxhole. I broke my thumb and a couple fingers. The medic came to me and warped my hand. He told me he was going to remove me from the exercise and I would have to repeat the entire coarse over. I was at the end of the course. The medic was a friend of mine and from the same unit. I bribed him with a new heater for his 577 if he did not report me and helped me get through the rest of the course. He did and I had his heater replaced and a few other things when we got back to our unit.
We stayed friends for a while until he was discharged for drugs. I lost track of him after that.

Yep. Remember when the Army they told us dark(ish) urine bad. Clear urine good? BP 80/40, and they weren't concerned? That is why I have ZERO faith in the VA (there are other reasons in my case). Starting to wonder if your initial issue was low BP.

Fowler, You're right about the exercise lowering your blood pressure. There's just not as much volume for the heart to push thru the blood vessels as when you're normally hydrated. In that case, your BP will normally come up as you consume more water.

Yesterday I went for a short wind therapy session, and the wx was pretty much miserable (90°F - 75% Humidity). I stopped at the store on the way back, and while I was dis-mounting and taking off my full face helmet I got pretty dizzy. I didn't like that. I'm getting older and this is the 1st time I've experienced this while riding. I am generally in a slight state of dehydration and I do wear a black helmet. All of this probably worked against me.

I will definitely have to monitor this. I may even have to mount a drink holder like a lot of riders do. Anyway stay safe out there and don't put yourself in the same position I was in yesterday.

If I am going to be out in hot/humid afternoon conditions I have found that just drinking water doesn't always sustain me. Prior to being out I will consume a bottle of Gatorade Zero then just maintain with water. The electrolytes, sodium, and potassium help me through it. At 71 YOA just can't handle the heat as well anymore.

I do the same with Gatorade Zero.
It gets and is now, darn hot here in Arizona.
Sounds like it will be around for at least another week. (n)😱🤬

I carry a thermos with frozen icewater on my bike, It's always ice cold every sip, and keeps me hydrated through the day.......

I have an army surplus camelback style water reservoir I got back in my work days. On the extreme heat days, I will fill it up with ice and water. Then I tuck it into an insulated soft side cooler bag that I put a couple frozen water bottles in as well as loose ice, zipper it up but make sure the hose is coming out. It normally is enough to stay cold and provide enough hydration for the day. I can bungie it onto the passenger seat. It works very well.

Only thing I do have to do is when finishing grabbing a gulp, blow the water in hose back in to the reservoir or that first tug of water can be a bit warm. And I too will grab a cold Gatorade when stopping for fuel to help replenish some minerals and such. I refill the camelback at end of day, toss it in the fridge if I'm staying at a motel and put the water bottles in the freezer to refreeze. Even if I can't refreeze the water bottles, I can still fill up the cooler bag with loose ice from ice machine and that helps a lot.

Staying hydrated is one of the most important things to do.

All good advice. Just want to add a couple thing learned from living (and surviving) in the desert. Trying to hydrate when in the heat is helpful but can often be too late! You need to start hydrating well BEFORE. At least a day ahead of when being exposed to high heat. Then constantly replace fluids. Don't wait until you feel thirsty. Keep drinking constantly.

When riding above 95 degrees I always try to wear a cooling vest. They are very effective at keeping the core body temperature in check. And, I avoid riding or exposing myself to temperatures above 105 for any lengthy time. Utilize gas station/convenience store walk in beer coolers. I have NEVER been refused access when telling a clerk I needed to get my body temperature down. Make a gatorade purchase and give them a big thank-you when leaving. It promotes good will towards bikers.....

Saw an article in the local paper a couple days back that said that a biker died crossing Death Valley. He was with a group riding across Death Valley and they pulled off into a rest area, Got off his bike and fell over in the parking lot, and another one of the group was air lifted to a hospital in Las Vegas.

Nothing to fool with, it can sneak up on you and kill you quickly
