Harley Recalls Nearly 46,000 Motorcycles DETROIT (AP) -- Harley-Davidson is recalling nearly 46,000 motorcycles in the U.S. because they could stay in gear due to clutches that won't fully disengage.

The recall covers certain Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, Police Electra Glide, Street Glide, Road Glide and Road King models from the 2014 and 2015 model years.

Harley-Davidson Motor Co. said in documents that gas bubbles can cause the clutch master cylinder to lose its ability to fully disengage the clutch, especially if the bike has been parked for a long time. This could cause a rider to lose control of the motorcycle if it's started in gear.

The problem was found through customer complaints. Harley reported 27 crashes and four minor injuries.

Dealers will flush the clutch and rebuild the master cylinder. The recall was to start April 23.

I don't get it

Anyone have any idea what is so different about Harley hydraulic clutch systems that would cause people to get killed or injured? Other companies have used hydraulic clutch systems for years without issue. Although I thought Honda had an issue with theirs last year also. Not sure about that.

This one is different ...first one was on a tear that could develop in the primary cup seal on the MC...this one is something about bubbles in the fluid...especially on a bike that's been sitting.

My 14 was on the first recall, it is not on this current one. :)

I'll bet there are quite a few Motorcycle Manufactures that would be happy ''just'' to be able sell 46 thousand bikes.... :D
