Harley Freewheeler Trike Owners Thread

We bought an identical (Velocity Red Sunglo) Freewheeler a couple of months ago at Fort Worth Harley. It's a beautiful machine and a whole lot of fun. We're located in Weatherford, so if you're ever out this way give us a shout.

I was JUST out there two times, weekend before last. On Saturday with a PGR escort to Lingleville and then Sunday to do a delivery to a wildlife rehabber of some goodies for her cage building needs.

I want to come out that way and ride Main street north out of Weatherford and take it as far north as I can, looks like a good road. Hwy 51 I think it is.

We should get a bunch of trikes together and have a trikathon ride some weekend day out there! Would be fun! Could get some folks coming over from Dallas to meet up and pick up folks in FW and then onward to Weatherford and ride, ride, ride. Nice roads out there. Hwy 281 was very nice down towards Stephenville.

I'm excited and nervous. Hi I'm new here. My husband and me have ridden for years. He rides a Fatboy and I have had numerous bikes the latest a Deluxe. I had a bad accident and was laid up for 3 months a couple years ago and have not been able to shake my anxiety on the bike. I barely rode last season and for the most part with way too much tension. I was so depressed. I thought riding a trike wouldn't be a motorcycle until I saw the Free Wheeler. So I decided to buy her since I couldn't imagine not riding!!
She is coming in a gorgeous velocity red and all chromed up. Will post a photo in a couple weeks.
Any ladies out there riding a Free Wheeler?

WHOOOHOOOOO! You will L.O.V.E. that Freewheeler! I love mine like crazy. My little 883, bless her little heart, she just didn't have the umph this girl has so on the highway, well, I would just stay over in the far right lane. Now, LOOK OUT. I am in the fast lane, cruising along at 80, keeping up with everyone else. Oh yes, it is nice to have "the power". You will love that Velocity Red too, it is gorgeous in the sunlight. Congrats!!!!!!

Freewheeler freedom

Congratulations! Your going to love it. I have a 2015 blue freewheeler. Being able to get back out on the road is an awesome feeling. I've been doing a little work on the FW : diamond ice derby, timing cover, air filter and replaced the bell horn cover with Arlene Ness cover with diamond ice timing cover. Currently I'm working on pinstripes and changing the stock mufflers with SE canon .

Tired of hearing about old farts and medical conditions

I really get tired of hearing about trikes being for old farts and people with medical conditions my response is SO WHAT Most of or maybe even just a lot of trike riders ride them because they still enjoy riding and feel safer on three than would on two. Most have ridin two and usually for a long time, personally 62 years on two wheels before I went trike. I agree with and know GARYD of a previous post and know he rides all kind of weather as do I. So to all the nay sayers out there just do your ride and enjoiy and IF and thats a big IF you live long enough you too may enjoy riding trikes when your an old fart.

Driver Back rest for FLRT

So where to get a backrest for the front seat of an FLRT. Last I looked, H-D doesn't sell one.

Just ordered backrest from "Ultimate Seats" and it is first aftermarket backrest I have been able to find $249.00 and with the mounting bracket which is unlike HD which gets $189.00 for backrest and THEN tells ya youll need a mounting kit for $215.00. So Ill have to let you know after I get and mount.

Well triketomcat. Your right about that. I'm 28 and love my FreeWheeler. You don't have to be old to buy a trike

Man, I can't agree more. Except for a select few, most riders chuckle at the trike riders. Yes, I rode 2 for many years, but switched to 3 because of the amount of riding I do here in So. Cal. A lotta nuts in cages in this area. I love to ride and just feel safer on the FREE.

Hey just thought I'd start a little thread for those who have purchased, and want to register here, their ownership of Harley's new Freewheeler model. Participation is up to you, I think it would be fun to see who has the lowest VIN number out there and what percentage are Vivid Black, Superior Blue, and Amber Whiskey. (Has anyone seen an Amber Whiskey in the wild yet?) driver backrest

Hi,

I bought a Freewheeler today but won't be bringing it home for a few days.

I was told by the dealer that there is not a rider backrest available but I see many on this site so perhaps someone can tell me there to get one.

I got mine yesterday (Backrest) from "Ultimate Seats " price $249 + shipping works great. The motor co. gets $189 for backrest then nails for $215 for the kit to mount it. So far satisfied

Had my black Freewheeler for about a year. Bought a trike due to my right leg being amputated above the knee after a drunk driver totaled me and my V-Max. I currently have a RIDE-ABLE system to operate the rear brakes. It uses a pneumatic cylinder powered by a small air compressor in the trunk. The cylinder is connected to the brake pedal and is operated by two buttons near the throttle. If I need more than the front brake, there's a black button to apply the rear brakes. There's also a red "Oh S**t" button for panic stops. Been working well so far. I've heard of a linkage that will put the brake pedal on the left side, which I'd prefer (any info out there?).

Living in Louisiana, riding is pretty much year 'round. Lot's of nice, back roads, great food, and friendly people.

I wish our Freewheelers had a backrest of its own. They adjustable one I have sits too high on our backs.

Looks like you're using Kolpin's ratcheting brackets to hold your forearm crutches. I'm a right A/K amputee and have the same setup to hold my full length crutches. Working on a way to mount them down the right side in case a passenger wants to ride (no right leg clearance to worry about!). Surprised to see a setup similar to mine. Ride safe !!

I am a disabled (Leg amputee) rider and was previously driving a Fatboy - loved it but my right knee was starting to hurt. Got a Freewheeler last July and I'm in love with it. Thought I was going to have to give up riding.

Once I was stopped at a red light and a guy next to me said 'You get that because you're old?'

My only response was lifting my pant leg off my prosthesis. I never seen someone's eyes bug out so fast. I also ride with shorts and get some weird looks as well.

Just took delivery of my 2015 Blue Freewheeler on Saturday. Took it for a little scoot around the neighborhood but still cannot ride it too much as we need a special 3-wheel endorsement on our Driver's License. She is a beautiful machine. Can't wait to take my 2-day class so I can be legal and get out on the highways and byways.

I have a 2015 blue FW and I'm loving it. You will not be disappointed

yea, I'm 64 and can relate... with age and prosthetic leg, you get all kinds of comments... but usually they're kind comments.

FW seat

Hi

I'm looking for a new seat for my 2016 FW. Is there one that seats you more towards the rear?

The one on mine, seems to "capture" you ...confine you... more than I would prefer. It would be nice to be able to scoot around a little and be more rearward.

Re: low speed head shake

I bought my Freewheeler a year ago and get a little head shake at low speeds, I tried changing tire pressure, keep an eye on my suspension air pressure and it still does it, anyone experiencing the same problem? I have done a couple changes to make it look the way I wanted it to and most likely do seat and bars as well, I added a road Glide fairing to my Freewheeler and love it been riding fix fairing bikes 1984 and really like them, also I bought my trike because I now walk with arm canes and just didn't feel comfortable holding up my Road Glide anymore. I absolutely love my new bike

Know what you mean! I haven't been able to use a prosthesis (right A/K amputee) so people on my right side often do a double-take. Riding a motorcycle with one leg? Was actually stopped by a police officer. He just said, "Sorry to bother you, but I just had to ask." So I showed him how the RIDE-ABLE system operated the rear brakes. He had a few more questions about the Freewheeler ( most of you know how that goes). Couple weeks later, pulled up to our local Harley dealership. A "real biker" asked if I was too old to ride a motorcycle (he was on my left side). As I swung the stump over the seat, I replied, "Sometimes life doesn't leave you a lot of choices." Just ignored him as he tried to apologize.

I find a tach just as important, if not more, than a speedometer. Does anyone else find the FW lacking in this respect?

Hi Sue! I joined this forum a couple of years ago, while thinking about buying a Freewheeler. Yes, its a great forum! I ended up purchasing a two-wheeler. Due to worsening joint issues in the past year, I'm trading that two-wheeler in on a Freewheeler! I'll be picking it up this week if all goes well. In hindsight, should have done that back then..but! It doesn't matter. I'm excited for this new experience and adventure. I know I'll feel much more confident! You most likely will, too. Looking forward to seeing you post pics and reading how it all goes for you.
(a little about me: I'll be 62 soon, am retired, currently live in the San Francisco Bay area but am relocating back to northeastern New Mexico soon. Oh! and I picked Black Quartz, though that sunglo red is beautiful!).
