Haha...yes they do sound like 'birds of a feather"!. Deb's Storm was picked up at 5pm on Friday and she rode it to Maggie Valley for the Trike Talk meet Saturday morning. Brought it in for its 1,000 mile service (actually 1150 miles) on Monday.

She is keeping the Storm, keeping it "down on the farm", for when she is down there. The Freewheeler will remain with me in Richmond until she comes home on the weekends. I rode it for a short test ride today, and it is much quicker than my bone stock 2010 FLHXXX and handles easier. I just may change over to a 19 or 21 inch front wheel on mine; like the way it handles.

Question: Does anyone know why Harley did not opt for the heat deflectors under the seat on the Freewheeler? Deb's only complaint after driving it 85 miles down I95 was the heat coming up around the back of the tank and front of the seat. Looks to me that the stock 2010 and later deflectors should "bolt right up".
Thoughts?

Totally impressed with ride, handling and power.
I did drop the rear tire pressure to 20 lbs and the suspension to 15 lbs. For me it was a big improvement - I ride solo.
With the rack and collapsible bag I have tons of room
for 8-9 days before laundry - fine for me.
BTW still totally stock other than windshield, rack grips etc

Can't speak for the other guy, but I am 6ft with 34" inseam and 170lbs. I took my wifes new Freewheeler out for a short spin and did feel a little cramped. If the seat was replaced with Triglide or Streetglide standard seat, believe it would fit like a glove. Footboards and dimensions from neck to box are the same as a TG/SGXXX; the box is shorter. The seat is more like the ReducedReach Harley seats. My wife, who you see in the picture in this thread, is 5' 3" and has short legs (feet do not touch the ground if she tries to walk the trike) and you can see in the picture that she is "up on the tank". Hope this helps.

And although the writer doesn't say how tall he is, the picture of the rider is telling ~ he looks like he's on a child's tricycle. The copy claims the H-D FLRT moved the seat 1" closer, and 6" lower.

Like Stan66 wife 'Deb" in her picture, I used the front half of the floorboards on my (2) demo rides. Although I prefer heel-and-toe shifting, I noticed that I tended to shift with my toe only. I'm 5',10"

Writers should HAVE to ride for over 500 miles to make comments on Trike handling. They REALLY have no clue as to how a trike can corner and how a trike can brake while in a corner. "Lifting a wheel, upending, hanging off" are not something we trikers do on a regular basis. We are not all old farts with medical conditions!! We are cool trikers that love our rides!!:pepper:

[RANT] It's not just the magazine media that's ignorant about trikes. As my wife and I want to several dealerships to inquire about the price and availability of the FLRT and Spyder F3, we were constantly amazed that the salesmen didn't know what we were asking for:

At one BRP Can-am Spyder dealership 9/02: What's an F3? :xzqxz:

At our local H-D dealership 9/02: Spyder? Are they the ones with the two wheels in the front? :confused:

At Lansdale Bike "Night" Can-am Spyder tent 9/07: Freewheeler? Aren't they coming out in the Spring?

When my wife and I attended our second H-D demo test ride 9/27, I ended up answering other rider's questions about the FLRT! One of the sales managers asked if I wanted a job there (yes he was joking, but I had all the answers ~ the salesmen in attendance didn't know squat.)

Overall, the salespeople weren't knowledgeable about 1) their trike product, or 2) the basic information about their competitor's trike product.

Meanwhile, trikes are high-end (priced) products. [/RANT]

I'm 5' 10" and used to weigh 275 pounds. Down to 230 and 30 more to go, but enough bragging. My left foot is 'forward' in the picture because I wear a size 13 shoe and you will notice that the heal of my 'tennie' is about an inch in front of the heal shifter. Not any more, the heal shifter is gone. According to Harley the Freewheeler and Tri-Glide are on the same chassis, one has an Electra-glide front end, the other a Road king.

The difference in length is the trunk / body. It does have a 'sundowner' type seat, lot less padding but still comfortable. I have almost 900 miles on mine now, would be a lot more but we are doing some extensive remodeling on the house and can't get away as much as we usually do. The trike is VERY comfortable and SEEMS to handle better than the Tri. For most of the riding we do it is just perfect. We will be doing a 4000+ mile run as soon as the addition is complete, I can give you a better idea then. BUT for years I rode Softails and Dynas all over the country and loved it. Not big on a lot of storage space, just a place to keep lots of not so necessary stuff..... like my wife's Tri. When we travel we bungee a rolling suitcase to the back seat. Lot easier to get in and out of motels.
 
OK, I am interested in seeing and test riding an FLRT; but, calls to numerous dealerships here in OH have found that none are about (??)

I live near Cleveland, anyone know of a dealership within 200 miles that actually has one? I mean actually has it?

I agree with you 100%.
To make a long story short, this past summer I was riding the Cherohala Skyway and decided to ride behind 6 rice rockets. I stayed with them for 7 miles before they turned off. When I mentioned this on another Harley forum, I was chastised that that was impossible. They said either those riders were inexperienced or they were not riding fast - both untrue. I told them that I'd bet them $100 that I could go around a corner faster then them without drifting into the farthest lane. No response from them other then to say that can't be done. Even the members of my HOG chapter are amazed at how quickly I can change lanes or take a turn.
You can't do this right after buying a trike, but after a few hundred miles you can. Just need confidence and a little guts. ;)

I love the come backs these non riders say when asked if they have ever ridden a trike and they say they have at some dealer demo days or that they are mechanics and have ridden some of their customers trike after doing a repair job - well big f*&^%ing deal - that's not enough time to evaluate anything let alone a trike. :AGGHH:

Never lifted a wheel, never upended one, but did hang off a couple times on a sharp turn just for giggles and to psych out the riders behind me. :D

I have laid down a few feet of rubber when I got enthusiastic with the throttle a few times. :D
I do not have any medical condition that requires me to ride a trike. I just love riding one and want to be able to keep riding when I'm in my 80's (I'm 70 now). :pepper:

I tell people that I started life riding a trike and will go out riding a trike. ThumbUp
 
New here guys, just got my Superior Blue Freewheeler yesterday. It's at the dealer until tomorrow having my GPS mount installed, chrome front end kit, heated contour rubber & chrome handgrips, LED tail lights, air wing rack w/LED light. Also have front LED turns, 20" wind shield, tallboy seat, and detachable sissy bar w/backrest. Wooh! Can you say non-sufficient funds? :(

Hello everyone! I purchased my FLRT a week ago, chose BLACK and added on a few accessories, the usual front shield, signature sieries seat with back rest, sissy bar, trunk rack and SAC leather eagle grips and soon to add the rear chrome bumper. Now as for the ride I rode a Heritage Classic for several years and will say I am very happy with my trike. I have put 600 miles on it so far and can say I am very content :D, it performs exactly how I want it, changing lanes is smooth and reactive to my commands, breaking despite current technology is on the dime and as far as comfort 600 miles in a week should say it all ThumbUp, oh and my wife has riden with me 500 of these miles and she never has ridden with me before.

The trike does have a couple of short comings which of none are related to performance rather cosmetic and what is standard for instance all bikes should come with LED, the bike color options should be more than just three and the speedometer well lets just say it is blah but all-in-all "I Likes it" and have but one thing to say to HD :clapping: good job
 
Test rode a freewheeler today. Very impressive. I second screwball this is a great trike. If the road king style is what you like this trike is right up your alley. Stock it runs super. I can only speculate what it would be with the cat removed a stage one cleaner and a tuner would do to it. Throw a windshield on it and you can just about go anywhere. Lots of storage in the trunk.

I did my test ride a Space Coast HD in Palm Bay Fl. Been there several times great dealer. The sales manager from Petersons HD South has taken the same position at Space Coast. Tony is great to work with.

Very competitive dealer. So if you are looking check them out. They had at least 8 Freewheelers on the floor along with 8 to 10 Tri-Glides.
 
I say right on man,, I have done the same,, I feel I can ride with the best of them, And after riding the Freewheelers I chose to stick with mine, And then I added the stage 4 kit.. what a difference,, eat my dust and no way is it collecting rust

I have to admit that I would consider replacing mine, if another with all the indicators to fit were available. I like HD's analog tack and digital speedo combo unit, but it does not fit the trikes - no p brake, reverse, reverse trip, or cruise indicators on it as I under stand. But, something like it would be great, it seems easy to read and that is something that I would like to have and I sort of find that LQD appealing as well.
 
Got a black FW today. Awesome! For all you Fla guys, Lakeland HD is the place to buy. Got an '11 TG and a '13 TG from them. They did an even swap on the Fw with my '13 TG with 43000 miles. No tax, fees reg or anything. Put 350 miles on it today.
