Harley conversion v Can-am Spyder

As long as my state and all other states(to my knowledge), insurance companies and Harley Davidson consider a TG a motorcycle = it is a motorcycle. People can call it whatever they want. Some people call ships, boats and tomatoes, vegetables. Completely wrong on both counts, just shows their level of education.

One could play with semantics forever, even Harley calls the Triglide and the Freewheeler a trike. When you go to their site both the TG and Free are under the heading "Trike", the P&A catalog will make statements about fitment with the caption "Except Trike". When I had my 2010 TG it was considered a Trike by my insurance company Allstate. When I was putting insurance on it the agent was having a hard time finding it until I told them look for FLHTCUTG, she then said there it is, a trike. My 2012 Hannigan wing is insured as a bike with accessory coverage equivalent to the cost of the trike kit, that is how they handle a triked 2 wheeler.

IMO a bike which grows a 3rd wheel is a trike.

Oh yeah they are now have reruns of Renegade..ThumbUp

How about "The Great Escape!
Wild Ones

Those were movies, but you're right.

There are a lot more movies about motorcycles then even TV shows.

I wish they would re run "Then Came Bronson". Loved that show. I do like Michael Parks and Steve McQueen.

I agree wholeheartedly that it is a trike, but it is still classified as a motorcycle.

It is a motorcycle no matter what anyone wants to call it. Of course Harley calls it a trike, it has to have a class for it just like Sportster, V-Rod, Softtail, etc. they are separated in the P&A catalog also.
My insurance and my state call it a motorcycle - I even have a motorcycle "license plate" and I'm barred from anyplace that says "No Motorcycles Allowed" (some Chicago parking garages). My drivers license even indicates it is "Motorcycle" endorsed.
It has a motorcycle engine, wheel, handlebar, brake, transmission, lighting, seat, trunk, clutch, etc PLUS another wheel.
I have yet to read an article about a TG in a automotive magazine, but I have in many "Motorcycle" magazines.
We can agree to disagree about what it's called.....it won't change anything.

If you were running the secretary of states office, what class would you put a trike in,
1. Automobiles
2. Motorcycles
3. Trucks

Now that's one show I have not seen..Maybe "METV" will put it on some day..:D

MSF calls it a 3 wheeled Motorcycle. 2 wheels = motorbike, motorized bicycle. 3 wheels = motortrike, motorized tricycle. 2 or 3 wheels motorcycle :D

I kinda like the new 2016 Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited. Pretty pricey though, compared to just the plain F3.

Yeah, I think my wife is starting to consider trading her 2012 RT in for one of those. They do look pretty cool and you sit in it more than on it.

I'd have a category for trike, I know other states do, they even have separate licensing requirements.

Nurzo,

Is there any difference in handling with the two wheels being attached to the front of the trike as opposed to rear wheeled trikes?

Thanks for your input.

It definitely more stable and sure footed, the Spyder can be really pushed into a corner and the electronics will make sure you come out of it OK whereas the Harley I feel if pushed will lift the inside wheel and put you into all sort of trouble.
Aside from this the Harley's cool factor is out of this world.

Have you actually tried to lift a wheel or ' Do you ''Just'' feel it will ''as you say'' put you into all sort of trouble.. Having had a Spyder, And now a tri-glide never had a problem..With either ..
Believe me if any Trike would put you in all sort's of problem's, They would end up like Honda did with their ATC's ...

No I haven't actually lifted a wheel.
The reason I mentioned lifting a wheel is my friend a fellow Spyder rider took the harley for a spin up the road and back, well he rode it to the end of the street did a u turn and must of cranked the throttle on before completing the turn and with the torque of the harley the inside wheel lifted up about 18 inches before it dropped down scaring himself and me watch from up the street. Him being use to a Spyder which has little torque compared to a harley.

I actually did lift a rear wheel off the ground a couple years ago. I was riding down the street about 35 to 40 mph when a car shot out of a side street. I don't know if it was a male or female it was that quick. Well, I made an extremely fast "S" maneuver at which time the wheel lifted a foot(probably more like 6"), but felt like 12". :)
I slammed on the brakes ready to turn around and express my displeasure to the driver. When I looked in the rear view mirror I saw him/her make a fast "U" turn and exit the area. If I had had weak kidneys, I'd be soaking wet. Pissed is not a strong enough feeling. That was the closest I've ever come to getting hit by a car. :AGGHH:

I have tried to lift the rear wheel a couple time before and after that but never could.

I have no idea how a bike with 2 front wheels would have handled that situation. I don't recommend trying to find out. :)

Sounds like it's not too hard to lift a wheel on the Spyder. :D

I don't think I could lift a wheel just by making a purposely fast left turn. My situation was an IMMEDIATE (almost 90*) left turn that caused the wheel lift. I was sure I was going to go over. :AGGHH:
