From what I been reading the 09's dont have a cat. Wonder why they would recall them too??
I think the 2009 California models had them.
Oh, that's not good!!!
Does this recall have anything to do with brakes failing or just the brake lights and wiring?

Looks like the pedal went down to the floor..Scary S**T..Glad you are ok..
The peddle goes to the floor, there is zero rear brakes right now.
My 10 doesn't have a cat, I pulled the stock head pipe off when I only had 2,500 miles on it. The switch is only a couple inches from the exhaust so its taking a beating.
When I built my trike, I put the brake-switch on the tee connection far away from any heat or pipe interference. Plugging the hole and moving the thing away from the heat seems to be the most practical solution. The recall does not "spell out" what they plan to do, but I think then need to move it. Enough heat to melt plastic could also melt the seal and cause the switch to leak.
They installed a new switch in the same location, the new switch is supposed to be able to handle the heat.
At's about what I figured. They can sell the replacement "armor-plated" switch in the future for 3-times the price I guess.
Sounds about how they operate.
Was at the dealer yesterday and mentioned the recall, they said they had the parts and they would fix me up right away, it took about 35 minutes. They did my buddies also. They replaced the stop light switch with another one that looks the same.
Has anyone recieved the recall notice in the mail yet? I wonder if modifications made to a bike such as aftermarket pipes, trike kits, etc, will stir up any trouble with Harley paying for the fix. I heard a trike kit instalation will void my warranty. I wonder if it affects recalls also?

I think they are suppose to be mailed by the end of Oct..I think you should be Ok on the recall as long as they wasnt upgraded too and your dealer is cool..
The dealer who performed the recall work on mine didn't pay any attention to the Jackpot head pipe I have installed.
I am pretty confused about this recall and hope you guys can help me out. Where is the brake switch at, somewhere on the front of the bike? My new Trike will have a Roadsmith conversion and just wondered if it will be affected? ('11 H-D Ultra Classic Limited)
I have V&H head pipes and mufflers, they did not even make a comment. The brake light switch is directly behind the stock pipe behind the catalytic converter section.
lady....as far as I know, most kits utilize the existing brake line. The brake-switch is located IN the rear brake line and will need to be changed if your bike fits into the recall category regardless if it has been kitted or not. Maybe talk to your kit installer and see if they alter the rear brake line during the conversion, but I doubt they do. Generally....they run the banjo connection that was on the rear brake caliper to a t-connection to split it for each side of your rear brakes.
To simplify....I think you are going to have the same rear brake line and switch after your conversion that you did before the conversion.

There shouldn't be a problem with any modifications. The dealer is PAID to do the rapair by the MoCo. The more they do, the more they get.

I didn't want any issues either. There is a Harley dealer about ten minutes from my trike dealer, so I took my Road King to the dealer for the switch replacement this morning, on my way to the trike dealer.
No issues with the replacement.
With paint and assembly, it will be about three weeks to get the trike.
