gps mounting

I use a Ram mount that is attached around the clutch reservoir housing. Works well for me although sometimes I wish is was more centered to my line of sight.

Ram makes all kinds of mounts so you might give them a look and see what works for you.

we rode around the USA with the GPS suction cupped to the windshield. found it easy to remove yet it never fell off. its easy to view without looking away from the road, but not obtrusive.

I dont know if HD is the same but on my wing I mounted mine to the left handlebar unit with a Ram mount. I can turn the Ram mount towards me for better viewing with the GPS. If you need a chuckle look at how both GPS give me directions for where I was going :laugh::laugh:.

I used Ram mounts for both my GPS & XM Radio. Also inclosed with plastic see-thur cover. Works good.

I bought the Ram Aquabox. Definitely keeps the rain out. However, on a sunny day I could barely see the screen, buttons are hard to push and couldn't hear the voice at all. My GPS isn't bluetooth or have an ear bud output. Ended up customizing the inside foam so it doesn't muffle the speaker, removing the plastic see through shield and customizing a piece of 1/8" plastic to keep the PS from falling out. Works fine now but no longer water-proof and not worth $50.00

Love me some RAM mounts. I have 3 mounts with a total of 4 balls on the trike, 2 mounts/3 balls on the HD and the triumph gets 2 mounts with a ball apiece. I have a mounting plate in the car for the RAM suction cup GPS mount, and it sticks well to the dash of the motorhome and Gloria's car. This site can fix you up according to what you drive/ride and the device you want to mount: http://www.expressmounts.com/

As can the official RAM mount site:
http://www.rammount.com/

On the trike I have a 2 ball clutch clamp mount for the GPS (garmin 1450LMT) and the phone or Mp3 player on the left, on the right brake clamp mount I attach a cupholder I made for a Bubba 24oz Hero Sport insulated bottle and a mount under the right passenger armrest for another bottle holder.

mine is mounted to my gas tank cap on my tank, but I saw a 3 bag windshield system with a gps mount in the center last week for around 90.00

right in the line of sight . wouldn't have to look away from the road. might be in my future.

I tried my Tomtom suction cupped to the windshield using the bracket that came with it. Hit a bump about 40 miles down the road and the GPS popped out of the bracket. Didn't look too good after going under the rear tire. Took the old outdated one all the way to Sturgis stuck to the fuel door with no problems.

This maybe a better pic of the Ram mount with water resistant zipper case.

I want to thank each of you for your input, help and photos. Here is the end result. I used a Ram handle bar mount and mounted it to the riser. Again thanks to all of you!

There you go, it looks good, have fun with it. ThumbUp

I prefer the mount on the left handle bar perch, clutch reservoir. You will need to get the gps specific mount then the ram will bolt to that.
I make most of my mounts except the gps specific mount. That way I can put the mount where I want it. I only use the 2 inch arms.

Sorry to join this thread so late. I am using a Garmin Nuvi, not a Zumo, so it is not waterproof and it is not shock resistant. Nevertheless, I have not had problems with vibration or rain, and I can see the screen better. I found a large file card plastic file and cut it up for protection. The former back part of the file shields the GPS from rain and also shades the screen.
If you have already installed the GPS, it should be very easy to install the shade and rain cover.
