Gear changer

Hi, just purchased a new build Harley Davidson trike with a VW engine. The gear changer is horizontal and comes out of the side of the trike. Can anyone help me with some ideas to get the gear changer to a more vertical position.
Thanks

The VW shifter is likely mounted offset on your trike to keep the linkage rod as close to horizontal or in line with the shifter shaft coming out the front of the transmission as possible.
There are u-joints available to perhaps splice into the linkage rod to allow a more angled mounting of the shifter box. That could maybe allow you to mount the shifter vertically or how it would be if it were still in the car.

Pics would help others on here to get a better understanding of what you've got to work with, if you can post any.

As an afterthought to my earlier post; having the shifter mounted offset as it sounds like what you have, takes a bit of getting used to especially when shifting into reverse but with practice it can become almost second nature IF you want it to be.

I like my shifter out the left side.
Most vertices upright mountings put it at least near the center.
The dune buggy super shifter works with u joints. Will give you some choice in where to mount it.

I am using an EMPI shifter on my trike. It is, of course, center of the trike between the seat. I was able to make the shift rod what ever length that I needed.

It is mounted to the center tube in a vertical position and pretty much shifts the same as a standard Type 1 bug with the exception of the reverse lockout.
