Does your gas mileage drop alot when going from a 2 wheel sportster to a trike?

I can't tell you about a sportster, TrikerV. However, my Fat Boy's mileage did drop VERY SLIGHTLY with the trike kit added. Honestly though, the change is so slight that it has not been particularly noticeable at all. I only see it on the gas pump itself --- on trips, I used to consistently take about 2/10 gallon less than my husband when we filled up, now with the trike I take almost exactly the same amount as his Street Glide.

I did not pay attention....to busy grinning like an idiot!! (daughter says whats new!!) I just fill up soon after the light...I have learned not to push it!! (Mrs K says I behave like my grin!!)
Probably as Nana says, a slight drop in gas milage, but not so much as to stop you grinning!!

Welcome TrikerV to our forum. Some thing to consider when determining mileage change. First of all you have more weight (around 20 - 30+% increase), second the wind resistance is increased by the two wheels sticking out there and covered with a fender which acts like a sail when driving over 40 MPH (if you are interested, the drag resistance goes up with the square of your speed - in other words your mileage goes down the tube the faster you go over 40 MPH), your driving habits and lastly the rolling resistance (three tires on the ground, more bearings, etc.). My research has produced results ranging from 10 - 20% reduction in mileage. One example is my GW; it went from 42 MPG down to 35 MPG and has remained consistent for three years. Good Luck....
