I have a Garmin GPS that I plug into the cigarette lighter in my car that i when i travel. How can i connect this to the power system in my 2012 Honda Goldwing. It is one of those portable kinds that you stick to the window and then take off when you are done. The built in system was too expensive. Any ideas? I would think there might be some kind of after market harness kit. I dont want it permanently installed...just be able to plug it in when i need it.

The fastest way is to install a cigarette lighter plug into your faring pocket, an plug in harness shoul aready be there, very easy to do. That way you can charge cell phoone etc. If you want to hard wire the Garmin in you will need to get the wire from Garmin, do not striaght wire to the 12 volt system, by cutting off a plug you will kill your garmin. It needs a little box that steps down the watts or volts whatever. I hard wired my wifes Stallion and put the plug in on my wing, both work well and meet the needs of that bike.

Google Ram-Mounts they have a great website that will let you find the correct back plate for your GPS, then find an attachment spot and you are good to go.

I have a NUVI 1450LMT, with a RAM mount. RAM Mounting Systems, Inc.
Love the system. You can mount almost anything. Don't use the windshield mount on the trike! For the GPS I have the 3.5" arm, clutch clamp mount, the mount for the NUVI (they make them for virtually any GPS and many Mp3 players and lots of other items) and I power it with the power socket in the left pocket. I use thge top ball for the GPS and the lower one for a music player. Another clamp mount on the other bar holds a cupholder, and there is another ball under the right passenger armrest for another cupholder for Her. As the NUVI isn't waterproof, I put a zip-lock bag over it when it rains. Been through some real downpours, it is behind the windshield and rain has never been any trouble.

Might want to consider a waterproof GPS cover. I got one on e-bay for $19.00 that includes the handlebar mount. Very easy to remove the GPS as the situation dictates.

Note: I swap my TomTom XL GPS between trikes and the car.

i am having gas cap mount installed for my garman , will i be abel to hear it ok.

I'm too deaf to use a telephone, but with my hearing aids I can hear my Garmin - and even understand it! Garmin has the clearest voice I've ever heard on a GPS. Mine is a 1490T.

EC (Electrical Connection) makes a harness to power it and also be able to hear it through the intercom. I have a built in gps now but on my last bike I used their duel connection which enabled me to also hear my radar detector through the intercom.
I'm not sure, but it was either EC or Kennedy Electronics.
