Fixed reverse

Saved a chunk of money doing it yourself.Dealer would just install a new starter $$$$.Gotta be careful with lube, could cause arcing on armature. When I was a broke teenager I'd extract the carbon rods from D and C cell batteries and make brushes for the generator on my Sportster. Store bought brushes in those days were like a dime. But it didn't matter.Had to get ready for my big date that evening.

I had decided to take it to a starter rebuilder anyway so I figured if I couldn't put it back together they could. Glad I bit the bullet and tore it down myself. Easy to do and saved some bucks too. The lube was designed to work with electrical application's so it should be good to go.

Reverse Parts Kit

I saw a post on another forum where a guy had his reverse motor fixed at a HD dealer. They used a kit PN 31400129. New Castle HD shows Part number 31400129 Motor RVS kit. Shows 2 on hand. Price shows $239.28! The guy that posted it said this: "It is a kit with new armature, brushes, coils, bearings, basically everything but the hard case on the outside". Anybody else seen or heard of this kit. That would save a lot of people a lot of time and money.
