Below is a link to lighted hand control switches that says they will fit a TG...

Here is the deal...according to what it says on 'fitment', it will fit a Tri-Glide. However, on the left hand switch, notice there is no 'R' above the horn symbol for reverse. My Harley dealer says it won't work. Well, at least the guy I ordered it off of says that. I'm really not trying to be mean here, but the poor guy is not the brightest bulb on the tree, if you know what I mean.

Does anybody know for sure whether they will work or not? I wouldn't think the 'R' itself being on there would make the difference. It would be the inner mechanics of the switches themselves.

What I'm hoping is that someone has already mounted a set to their trike and they work. I really need these, because I ride a lot after dark, and feeling around for the right switch isn't fun. I know, I know...I shouldn't be having to look down at my hands to know what button to punch. But the way I look at it, they wouldn't have them marked if they didn't expect them to be looked at. I also think the control switches should be lit from the factory, but that's a whole other thread....:)

It is what I call a double switch, 2 poles doing 2 different things.
I say it will work except no reverse. Got to have something to activate it.
Now, this is more of a guess

In that case, it's a for sure no-go. What a shame. I seriously doubt Harley will make switches like that just for the trikes since they are such a specialty item. :(

How are ya doin' anyway? Ever find out if it was a spider bite for sure? You can answer over on the late night thread if you'd like.

When I look at fitment is says in one place it won't fit the Trikes, and in another it says it will. :xzqxz:

If lighted switches are really important to you, maybe you can find a competent/actual mechanic/not a parts replacer, and have them install the lighted switches and then run a different switch for the reverse.

Gotta be careful because of the can-bus, don't want to give bad feedback to the BCM, but the right person could get it done.

The lighted switch kit will fit the 14-15 Tri Glides. I installed the kit on my brother's 14 and my 15. Everything works just fine. To get the Reverse to work, pop the cap off of the switch that has the horn on it. There are 2 small tabs that keep the button from rocking. Use a knife or side cuts and trim these tabs flush, pop the cap back on. The reverse works just fine. If you want the reverse cap you can pop the cap off of the original assy and put it on the new one, it just won't be lighted like rest of the assy. (horn). In the directions that was in the kit I purchased it was noted that there would be 2 switch cover caps one with reverse and without. They are using up the older kits and putting in newer instructions. When the new kits come out there is a part number for the lighted horn/reverse cap that I will be ordering, just don't know when that will be. I did not take photos of the installs (sorry). I installed the lighted switches since I had to replace the right one to add a cb. The original right hand assy. had to be replaced either with a non lighted one with the PTT switch for $140.00? or a lighted one (kit) for $198.00?. No brainer for me just to purchase the new lighted kit for $60.00 difference.

Thanks for that encouraging post dj.

I don't ride at night very often, but when I do it would be nice to have lighted buttons as opposed to feeling around for a switch. On my first night ride I went to make a lane change and accidentally hit the horn button instead of the turn signal button. It startled the crap out of me.

Thanks for this!

I will print out your post, and take it and show it to the service people at my dealership to see if it makes sense to them. Hopefully they won't be know-it-alls about it, and will work with me.

If not, I'll do what Kevin suggested and order a set anyway, and have my local shade tree mechanic put them on, and do what you suggest.

That is good information. I miss my lighted hand controls. They are very helpful for me. I have several bikes so I don't have to remember where what is.

Lighted Controls

I have lighted controls on my 14 Trike and they work fine. As reported you must remove the tabs from the top of the switch to allow the switch to rock forward. The only downside is the absence of the "R" on the button.
Someone on the HD Forum posted the step by step instructions for removing the tabs, which you might find through a search.
Good luck,

Thank you. I'll look there as well. This is really good news for me!

lighted switches

I have had lighted switches on my 2014 Tri glide from day I made the purchased in June of 2014. I had them installed along with other items. However I was not aware that my reverse wasn 't working until a few days and I wasn't a happy camper. Took the trike back and after a few hours of head scratching they advised that the lighted switches were for a bagger that has no reverse and Harley did not make a set for the Tri Glide, but they did have a call into Harley asking for a answer, the only solution they had was to put the old stock switch with the reverse button back on the left bar and then leave the lighted switch on the right bar or replace that one with the old stock. I could not believe that they would even make that suggestion, but I had left my stock switches at home so I told them NO we would wait to see what the factory had to say. A week passed and no word on the issue meanwhile I went online and looked at the switches wireing only and the numerous switch caps both black and chrome and observed that the same wiring harness was the same for all the 14s, the only difference was the caps that came with the harness that had a part number for the bike. So I took a small flat blade and popped off the button from the reverse switch on the non lighted switch housing and then popped off the same button from the lighted housing and observed that the lighted housing switch had two small tabs along the side that prevented the button from rocking. I thought that it can not be that simple, but it was, took my pocket knife trimmed off the two tabs and clicked it back into place and I had a working reverse. This tells me that the harness is the same and the light feature I bet is present in any harness, get a set of new buttons that allow the lite to filter thru or get the lighted switches and trim the tabs from the reverse button. After two weeks my dealer called and advised that Harley had no answer on the problem, just stating that they did not have a part number for lighted switches for the Tri Glide.....??? The service manager said it was too bad as he had three more Tri Glides that wanted lighted switches in the shop, I should have kept my mouth shut but advised him how to correct the problem, he said NO WAY, told him to try it and he called back and said it worked, couldn't believe the big wigs at Harley didn't know that. I posted all this on the HD Forums.

Just wondering--what's the name of your dealership? Mine won't believe what they are reading here on the forum, even though everybody is saying the exact same thing you are.

They called Harley and got the same answer your dealership got--nothing. Maybe if they can call another Harley dealer and hear from them that it will work, they will be willing to do the job for me.

switch

Sad isn't it................!!! Same deal with two 2 inch pull back handle bars, dealer wants also $1600 for the install, replacing all cables with extended brake lines, extended clutch line etc. Online many are saying that you only need the $30 wire extentions, everything thing else is fine. Taking my to a local shop that deal in Victory bikes but service Harley's total cost is under $500 for the pull backs. Just plain sad.....
