I purchased my wife a helmet (cheap) at the Myrtle Beach bike rally. It has a "fiberglass" DOT sticker on it under the clear coat. Why would it say fiberglass DOT and not just DOT? It's a Vega helmet. It is a lot lighter than my HD helmet. It did not come with an owners manual. Just want to make sure it's not a counterfeit. Any info?

Google Vega helmet, They make a lot of fiberglass helmets.ThumbUp

I did, thanks. I now don't know if fiberglass is the way to go. Should I assume that the "DOT" is all I need to know and just go with it.

Fiberglass helmets were/are the "classic" material for helmets; long before the plastics now used. IMHO, slightly superior to plastic since they will absorb impact by cracking rather than transmitting shock by "bouncing".
Drop one of each from 10 feet and watch what happens.

The DOT sticker is what most LEOs look for, but labels inside of the helmet are more accurate as to ANSI and DOT compliance.

I use fiberglass DOT helmets, as well as carbon fiber type, and have had no issues. Ride and don't crash....even a full face ain't perfect for protection.
