End of corn gas??!!

Indy cars use Methanol Alcohol not Ethanol. Totally different fuel with lots more BTU. Also dragsters use a blend of Methanol and Nitro.

Every car and Motorcycle I have had gets 10-15% less gas mileage on ethanol blended gasoline. In the summer we can buy pure gas in Wisconsin in some grades and vendors, in Florida we have a hard time finding pure gas as they passed a law where ethanol has to be used.

Actually they moved to ethanol in 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IndyCar_Series#Ethanol.

That's OK 'cause the laws of 6th grade math are against you. Using your BTU numbers a mixture of 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol has a total of 110,210 BTU per gallon which is 96.675% of that of pure gasoline. This is a debate I just won and I wasn't even debating! [(114,000 X 0.90) + (76,100 X 0.10) = 110,210] pepper

All math aside I can tell you the difference in the fuel system setup on the drag cars my brother drove and I tuned running Methanol and a setup to run Cam2 racing gas. When you start looking at a main jet for the return off the barrel valve of 200 for gas and 125 for methanol, your talking a lot of fuel being added, not to mention port nozzle and hat nozzle size changes. It takes one heck of a lot less gas than it does ethanol or methanol to achieve the correct afr to make the engine happy. Then start figuring on the added expense of using anodized aluminum fittings and flushing the fuel system after each race day to keep the un-anodized aluminum fuel cell from oxidizing and protecting the expensive pump.

When running the blown combination we would have to run a quart bottle of straight race gas through the butterflies of the hat to lube the rotors and chase the methanol out of the intake tract. Plus we would treat a jug of fuel with top lube and run it through the fuel system to protect and lubricate. As everyone knows alcohol loves to collect water, almost learned that the hard way one year when we almost didn't pass fuel check after a qualifying pass due to water contamination. My brother had 3/4 of a 55 gallon drum left over from the previous season, the drum had always had the bungs installed tight. Only thing we could blame it on was the times we were getting fuel out of the drum letting atmosphere in.

My Goldwing when it was 2 wheels would get on average 38 mpg on 10% ethanol fuel and 40 - 41 mpg average on 100% gas.

At the end of the day growing food just to burn the food isn't going to solve this countries problems. Right now we are on track to being the largest oil producer, not to mention all the natural gas resources we have at our disposal. We all just need to do what we feel is right for ourselves.

Let's see... at a 10 - 15 cent/gal price break with E-10 over regular that still gives me money in my pocket. But then you with your poor math skills wouldn't know that. Waste your money. You deserve it. :D

30 cents a gallon difference here. But after working for a company that built and supplied gas stations, I gladly pay the difference. I have seen the inside of gas pump hoses and nozzles that have had gasahol run thru them. The hoses get "snotty" inside and the nozzles are pitted. Those pits are missing metal. Take a guess where that missing metal, in suspension in the fuel, ends up. Special hoses and stainless steel nozzles held up well on the E85 pumps. Guess which ones are used at the 10% pump.
I know that the fuel systems of my cars, truck, bikes, lawn mower, snow blower and chain saw are not being chemically changed by the fuel in them.
I'm done on this thread. None are so blind as he who will not see. Can't help you, buddy.

10% ethanol was mandated here in Utah in Utah County and Davis county during the wither back in the 90's and early 2000's.Then the state proved it didn't help the smog problem and the EPA lifted the restriction. Now you almost can't buy non ethanol gas. There is only one station in Utah county that sells non ethanol, and about the same in Salt Lake and north. In the smaller counties there are no non ethanol stations.

Charlie, don't go home, this is no fun if we all don't play;)

Trent, thanks for starting this thread, and to suvcw04, 427dave, msocko3 and all the others, thank you for your enlightening contributions!

To oahe, brother you can flap your pie hole all day long about what you see as the benefits of ethanol, but it won't change this one inexorable fact. MY rig runs like SH!T on corn gas, and like a champ on pure gas!! Period. End of story.

All your math, "facts" and figures don't mean a damn thing when you're sittin' road side with a failed fuel system.

Merry Christmas everyone! :D

Gee, all I did was say that it has worked well for me then offered some remedial math for the challenged. Oh, well! Even the Grinch had a Merry Christmas!!!

This is not the first corn gas thread that he has opened his pie hole about. And he is entitled to spout. I guess. I think he is involved in the corn biz. Here is some more gas to throw on the fire. ( Not corn gas though! )

So,,, Would it then be safe to say: He has a "Cob" up his Gas about "Corn"

Of course the Grinch had a Merry Christmas...
His Sleigh wasn't running Corn-Gas ThumbUp

I was talking to a neighbor the other day. He heard while he was in the barber shop that someone's uncle was reading a tabloid story about this guy whose brother-in-law heard that some space aliens mistakenly put ethanol in their ship and melted the flux capicitor. So it must be true! Bad stuff!!!  :D

Dude, seriously?

You can crack wise and cast dispersions about the rest of us all day long, it still doesn't change the facts. All the math and research aside, for me the proof is in the pudding. My rig runs infinitely better on pure gas! Period! Nothing you can argue is gonna change that!

You're welcome to make the 780 mile trip from Pierre to Vienna and ride it yourself to find out! I'll toss you the keys and put your azz in the saddle myself, but you're buyin' the gas!

This is without a doubt the funniest thread I've read in a long time. No one's allowed an opinion and everyone else's fact's are all wrong.
Is this a great forum or what?
Now should we argue about Dyna Beads????

Ya Wanna Argue about it :D

P.s. Corn should be Et er Drunk... Period ;)

Tooooo funny.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Didn't you know that you put beads in your gas to keep your trike from falling over when you stop.

So THAT'S what keeps a trike from falling over?!?!?!?!
Here I thought it was straight gas that did the trick.

Oh, crap, I wasn't going to post anymore on this thread was I? I will punish myself by having a sip of corn liquor . . . . what alcohol is SUPPOSED to be used for.

Now that is a use for pig food that I can wrap my head around! Even when I am gassed, drinkin' it makes more sense than adding it to my gas tank, when there are better options available. But as some of you know, I do prefer Crown Royal.

I think I'll put a little Crown in MY tank tonight, and I don't mean the one on the trike! :D

THAT'S how it works huh?
Well I'll be dipped,,, in Corn AND Beads :D

I'm gonna get me some of them Beads but I'm a warning you Mister, if the Daggone thing falls over we ARE fittin' to Argue. then ya gonna help me pick it back up K? ;)

Hey,,, Anybody wanna buy some Corn. It may make your Trike-a-ma-jigger run like a leaned-out 3.5 horse Briggs but I hear tell it shore does a number on Hemorrhoids :D

I think the beads might help keep the ethanol in suspension:D.

Suspension who's talking about suspension? I thought were arguing about beads and corn.

Oh, I forgot. I must have been nipping at the good sipping whiskey a little too much:). Still I think the beads might work to mix a cocktail, kind of like the metal ball in a rattle can of paint:D.

Couldn't hurt and the AlkyHol kills the Germs (on the Beads and Ya Insides) ;)

I was drinking a little corn yesterday and remembered the day when someone said to put a few moth balls in your gas tank...I wondered if I needed to buy a magnifier and a pair of teeny tiny tweezers to find and pluck them little suckers...

We have officially slipped over the edge from the ridiculous to the sublime. Its what happens when you mix alcohol, gasoline, beads and balls.
