Hi All,...

Well I made it to Larry's Sports Center in PA., for a tune on the Triglide.

It's a 2012 with a stock 120R motor. Shanon spent over 8 hrs. on Thursday and a couple more on Friday, dyno tunin and test ridin it.

He dumped the map the other dealer had put in for break-in and started from scratch. He felt it was better than tryin to build off of their map. I agreed and it was fine with me!!

He had trouble with kock/ping on the high rpm end after gettin it hot. We could not hear it, but it was showing on the dyno program. So he took 1 deg. of timing out, it got better. (less knock). He took another degree out, all is good.!!

We had a talk before he started about numbers.

He has done an Ultra 120R but not a Trike with that motor. Like Msocko and FLHT said on here, you will not get high numbers on the Trike. (Parasitic power loss, and weight).

I told him that I wanted a smooth running Trike and don't shoot for high nimbers only. He and Wes (the dealer owner) agreed.

I also got a dip (going lean) at about 3500 rpm. in the AFR and return to normal about 4000 RPM. He couldn't get it out and does not know what it is?

AS he tried to richen it up in that area, he would loose too much power. But it's still in the acceptable range, and left it that way.

There is no way I can type all that was done and said for almost 10 hours of dyno, test and tune. But I am very happy with the way it runs!!

Msocko, I ran it hard up and down Denton Hill (summit) right there on Rt.6 by Larry's. It pulled nice and strong in 6th, and a blast in 5th. 100mph.

on Rt.6 and didn't get caught. I think you know the hill? Not so good with the truck and trailer.........

Oh yeah, the numbers, 113 tq. 113 h.p.. It's a hand full on a Trike full bore!!

I have complete faith in Wes and Shanon, and if anyone gets higher numbers with a 120R stock crate motor on a Trike, mine is broke. I'm talkin 5 more on tq and hp.

Later, eighty80 and havin fun!!

Hi eighty80, I also have a HD Trike with a 120r motor (2013). And really like the power/torque. I took it out of a 2008 Ultra prior to trading it in. I have not had it Dynoed in the Trike, but the numbers while in the Ultra were 129 HPI/128 tq. I have 9K miles on the motor at this point and am really happy with the installation!!pepper

Thank's for the TQ & HP info. Is that a stock 120R? I sure would like to know the numbers if you ever get it dynoed in the Trike.

Eighty80, I installed SE roller rockers, SE adjustable pushrods, SE Ventilator A/C, and an HPI 55mm Throttle Body w/58mm manifold. I did some research on the throttle body and found the 55mm/58mm combination flowed better than the SE 58mm Throttle Body.

My current tuner is the Dynojet Power Vision and really like it. I had the SEPST on the Ultra with the 120r motor.

I don't know of a place to have the Trike Dynoed! But am really happy with the way it is currently running.

Take care and enjoy your Trike, oh by the way, take it easy as it will lift the front wheel in three gears!!pepper

I know the hill, I did the same thing with both Trikes once they came off the dyno, its a good hill for loading the engine. Sounds like the folks at Larry's took good care of you.

Sometimes you can play with the timing to get a lean spot out without loosing power while you give it some fuel. You made the best choice, shoot for a smooth reliable running tune instead of chasing a paper number.

Yeah Mickey, I thought the "numbers" were a little low, but it is what it is.

Sometimes they don't want to give the numbers without a whole lot more fiddling around. I learned a long time ago not to chase a number, I got a hot running pining mess as a result. Now I go for a nice conservative smooth running tune, I like them to be able to run on marginal fuel if it comes to it. The Triglide I had would run on pretty much anything I pumped into it and never ping. Now my HQ 120 in my Ultra 91 is the absolute bottom, I learned it doesn't like 87 when I screwed up and filled up with 4 gallons of it. As I hung the pump nozzle up all I could say too my self was Aww Sh!t!. That turkey pinged and kicked back on the starter like there was no tomorrow. I tried dosing it with octane booster with no luck, I had to drain the tank and put in fresh to solve my blunder.

I thought you might take the shorter drive and run it down to Roeder Racing to be tuned?

Yeah, I thought about it, but Shanon did a good job on the 103 also, If he had a big back log I would have gone to Roeder. They did my 2005 and was pleased but don't know who the tuner tech was? I did know but that was in 2006, duh, ask your dad about memory.

Went out on it today for a little bit. Just cruised. In fact I went by your and your dads houses. I did crank it a bit there hopeing your on 3rd shift and sleepin. Didn't see a soul out at either place. I even had all the bugs off and cleaned up. Not that you haven't seen pretty black before.

As long as I have your attention, what should I see for cp and ccp? I think I might check it just to be sure?

I was working days yesterday but start nights tonight.

Your static should be around 10:5.1 and the CCP with compression releases disabled and throttle body disconnected and held wide open should be in the mid to lower 180's.

CCP; 190 front/185 rear.:D Leak down was all good!!

Plugs looked good, oil changed in all 3. Now I'll just ride it.

Guess my method of breakin worked fine.pepper
