Dusty Trike After Short Rides

I haven’t had very many rides yet on my trike but I can’t believe how much road dust the trike collects after just an hour or so. I’m a little anal about how clean my bike or now my trike is and it seems like the rear of the trike is a big dust magnet! Do all trikes get real dirty after rides?

Yes, they are dust and rock chip magnets.

If you think that’s bad, I farm and have 4 miles of gravel road before I get to the highway. I can’t keep any of my vehicles clean.

When we go on rides with our group, I keep a small California duster in the trunk to wipe off the bike when we get to town. The worst part are the wheels. I keep a can of compressed air in the trunk also to blow them out first. I’ve been looking for a small compressor to mount on the frame under the trike body just for that.

I’ve got my trike in the shop at “It’s A Wrap Automotive” in Champaign IL right now. They are covering all the forward facing surfaces with Ceramic Pro paint protection film.

I am one of the lucky ones. Have been married to a great woman for 45 years - she loves to ride.

So, when it comes to keeping the trike clean - she is always on top of that. She carries 210 cleaner in the bike and several soft cloths.

When we stop, if the windshield has bugs, she uses a bug glide removal.

So, OP - my suggestion - let your wife keep it clean. Just please don't tell her you learned about that trick here.

Thanks for all the tips, I’m glad I haven’t been overly sensitive to the dust. 🙈 I mentioned it to another geriatric rider (81 yo) I ride with, who has a Goldwing with a black Hannigan and he didn’t think it was a big problem. I’ll plan on some cleaning supplies for the trunk!
