Drivers back rest or no back rest?

My wife and I rode about 500 miles Saturday, enjoying the beautiful weather. However, I noticed my lower back starting to let the wear and tear get the best of me. Do you use a back rest? If so does it help for the longer rides.

I've owned three trikes and ridden many miles over fairly long distances. I find that some type of back rest is a "must have" to ease lower back muscle strain on long trips.

It makes such a big difference that a back rest (short or tall) should be the first accessory to add to any new trike.

I thought everybody had them. If not everybody, I'll bet you lunch in the finest eating establishment in Batavia that 99% of folks do.

I'm on my 4th Utpoia. Currently my 06 650 Burgman & the 02 Goldwing have them. My bride will be getting one for her 650 Burgman trike. A MUST have item when sitting upright in the saddle.

My Honda Pacific Coast 800 doesn't have one. I think it would be a waste of money on any bike that leans you forward. Surprisingly the I don't get a backache on the PC & its very comfortable.

I have a Utopia and wouldn't be without it. You might also consider handlebar risers to change your position. I use the MBL Wide set and it worked wonders for my shoulders; particularly on the trike.

Are the MBL Wide set just for taller riders. I am 5"11 ?

Yes to Back Rests!

Always have had one on my two GLs, the '85 had an aftermarket one when I bought it and the new Corbin seat had one with it in 1997.
The '97 Trike also had one (Hartco seat / BR) when purchased in 2004, then a few years ago I slipped the virtually unused oem seat (Hartco went on in 1998) out of the box and put it back on .... after the first ride I ordered a Utopia BR for it. Then last year I came upon a Corbin for it as well, with BR and now it's on the trike.

Something that we found was that the co-rider will like the BR more if the travel trunk get's moved rearwards a little bit .... and on our trike, I have the BR so I can slip it out while she mounts and dismounts.

Back Rest

449 days ago? This thread died.

I don't feel I could ride without a backrest. I also feel it may keep me from slumping as much. Sit up straight was what my mom always said.
