stupid cage drivers

i had a close call this afternoon. i was riding down a residential street in my town following a pickup. the driver slowed nearly to a stop and pulled completely to the left side of the road. just as i started to go by the driver suddenly turned right pulling into a driveway. there was a state patrol car parked there. if there had been a collision he would have not had to ask his dispatcher for directions. you never know what the other person is going to do.

I experienced a miracle yesterday. I rode the trike into town on errands and the whole time NOT ONE person pulled out or turned in front of me! pepper

On 2, 3, or 4 wheels you have to drive defensively. Always watch out for the other guy. Especially with 2 or 3 wheels.

1) Don't follow too close.
2) Always look for a way out
3) Be patient.
4) Keep plenty of space between you and the other guy.
5) Never drive in their blind spot.
6) When ever there is close call, What could I have done different?
7) If you have to slam on brakes, reread 1 - 6.

+1 Always being alert and looking for that way out has saved my bacon several times. Just this spring I had a lady in a van turn left in front of me, I ended up in a front yard which was my only way out. It was one of those situations where I couldn't go behind her because of on coming traffic and I sure wasn't getting the bike stopped in time. I choose to try and get around front of her with hope she would finally notice me and stop in enough time for me to pull it off. She noticed me just as I was approaching her front bumper and stopped which have me just enough room to get past and into a front yard.

I see that all the time...pulling left to turn right. I don't pass on the right unless I am positive it is safe. Everyone thinks they are driving a semi.

I was stopped at an intersection on a 5 lane road. I was in the left lane, next to the left turn lane. When the light changed, the car to my right began rolling - only he was aimed at me! I laid on the horn and yelled; I looked over just in time to see the guy put his phone down and hit the brakes. I was PO'd and started giving him a piece of my mind. In the meantime, my wife (on her Switchback) and a pickup driver were watching in amazement as we rolled down the road at 15 MPH while I gave the cage an education. I yelled at him "People like YOU kill people like ME". That must have hit home. He rolled up to me and APOLIGIZED!! You could have pushed me over with a feather. He told me I was exactly right and that he would never text and drive again!

Score one for motorcyclists!

Now that is unusual! Most texting/talking on phone drivers will get mad at you for interrupting their "Right" to have a conversation.

I had a woman driving a Beemer move from the right lane into my left lane cutting me off, as she talked on her phone. No signal, didnt look, just came over, and I had just enough time to slam on the brakes and swerve to my left a little into oncoming traffic and missed her. She pulled into a left turn lane up the road. I pulled up on her right at the light and signaled her to roll down the window. She was still talking on the phone, and rolled down her window. I yelled at her, " You almost hit me back there get off the effin' phone and pay attention" She gave me the finger with her right hand, made her left turn and was gone, all while still on the cell phone. She was a Real Estate agent with her picture and phone number and company name plastered all over the car. What a great buisiness woman!!

I saw a Unicorn today........See, nobody believes that also.
Aside from evil clowns who turn left to turn right (tough to turn power steering?) I get people making u-turns from parked in my path all the time.
After someone did something stupid recently, he apologized profusely. I guess 1 out of 1000 cagers admitting they were stupid is better than none admitting it.

Thought about that, but I didnt have time to write anything down. I could have easily if I had been in a car. I am a real estate appraiser,,,maybe I will run across her sometime.. I will be able to easily recognize her and her car. Her ugly face is unfortunately burned into my brain.

Best accessory added to my trike has been the air horn. If they didn't see me, they hear me when I lay on the horn.

I also have air horns installed and they can definitely wake up the dead!

Horns are good fer sure!..But, sometimes, there is no time to push that button!..It is too late for noise and gotta employ avoidance instincts instead!
Since I installed LED lights all over the front of my TG, I very, very seldom have anyone pull out in front of me anymore. 8 lights total...it is kinda bright. And worth every $.
