Death wobble at low speeds....

I am getting some serious death wobble at low speeds, once I accelerate it goes away....I did a search here on the site about this problem and found lot's of good info....I want to try tightening the Head Bearing and just wanted to know what exactly do I need to do to accomplish this? I read about jacking the front wheel up enough to clear and then doing the handlebar swing thing...

this I pretty much understand, but what I need some help with is just how tight should this bearing be? I am riding a 2003 Honda Shadow ACE 750....and I believe the threads that I read concerning this adjustment were based on the protocol for a Harley....so could anyone offer me some guidance on getting this adjustment made on my Honda? šŸ˜‡

Thanx so much...Anita :Bow Down:

I'm respecting the more experienced knowledge of those who recommend the raked trees. If you aren't going that way, you can try a couple of other options to see if it helps.....Please insure that all of your tire pressures are correct as well.

Here's a good thread that you may or may not have already seen. If you read Gorilla's last post in the thread, I don't see why the same technique/setting shouldn't work on your Honda trike.

As far as tightening up the bearings, please go to Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Accessories and look up your make/model. Check the schematic diagrams for "Handlebar" and the other one for "Steering Stem"

From what I can see in the diagrams, it looks like you might have to remove the "Bridge, Fork Top", Part #9, in the "Handlebar" diagram. With the "Bridge, Fork Top" (also known as "top yoke" on a set of "trees") removed, it should allow you access to the "Thread", Part #4, in the "Steering Stem" diagram. Tightening the "Thread" should compress/tighten the steering bearings until you can get the proper swing of the forks that Gorilla mentions in the linked thread....

If you don't already have one, a good service manual for your make/model should be considered a must-have item.

Another thing to keep in mind as far as wobble is that even though it might seem counter-intuitive, if you go into a wobble and if you have SAFE space in front of you, just give it a bit more throttle to alleviate the wobble.

Some folks go into a wobble and give it brake, which will only make the wobble worse.
