confused

The dealer for Champion who built my trike strongly urged me to keep my rear tires between 16-18 psi. He told me that the much lighter trike does not require the pressure the tires need on a car. Without question, the ride is MUCH rougher if higher pressure is in those rear tires, but I find it comfortable to keep it in the range the dealer recommended. You should try it yourself----take a ride at the 40 psi, then drop it to just under 20 and ride the same route and compare the comfort.

Fig this , Your trike weighs 1,200 lbs. My wife's Acura weights 4,200 lbs they use the same tire. Do you think that the tire should be as hard supporting 1,000+ lb a tire as it is holding up 500 lb atire . You can run them down to 5lb and they still don't look flat.

John hit it on the head. It's the weight difference. If you have 40 lbs in the rear tires the ride will be super rough. You sure they didn't say 40 in the front? That would be about correct for the front, but not the rear
