Totally exhausted and confused

Just bought a 2013 Tri-Glide. This is my 3rd Harley. I've been reading on your web site about slip on exhaust. Like any true Harley guy I want this trike to sound better. Can't afford whole new system, looking at slip-ons. I put a complete Reinhart exhaust system on my '02 Road king and never gave it a thought about computers, tune or flash whatever that is. My next bike an '08 Street Glide, I didn't have it have it 1/2 an hour and put Rush slip-ons it. It ran great.

My question is can I just put new slip-ons my trike and not worry about how lean the bike is running or messing with a tuner. Question number two - I 've been looking at catalogs and the web. Found some slip-ons that I like. Vance & Hines duel slash round. In some catalogs and web sites it says you must buy these $95.00 adapter kit. Other catalogs say nothing about it. The stock mufflers look just like any other touring mufflers that I have installed. Why do I have to spend another hundred bucks for adapters when they look like they will slip right on? Any help is appreciated.

If you are doing nothing else other than the mufflers the ecm will adapt. put a high flow cleaner on also then you should consider the tuner.

If you are keeping your stock header pipes I do not believe the adapter pipes are needed. If you were putting a after market header system on the adapter pipes are needed to put the pipes under the trike. Good luck have fun

also welcome aboard

Gorilla, your absolutely correct. The adapters only need to be used if your changing your header pipes. The stock ones are long enough to begin with. You can change intake or exhaust and not worry about the ECM. If you change both, then you need to reflash it with a new map.
