Clutch Lever Adjustment

Can someone explain to me what the Clutch Lever Adjustment actually does? I ride a 2016 Goldwing GL1800 trike and the adjustment is set at 3. I don’t understand what the numbers mean. An explanation would be very much appreciated.

The levers, both clutch and brake, adjust for the reach to accommodate for bigger or smaller hands..... Jim

Tony just a shot in the dark.;Orange's to Kumquat's here,:Shrug: I Put a adjustable clutch lever on my 2017 Tri-Glide, And if works the same way.? [probably not]...There are 8 settings on the lever...With #1 the lever is positioned closest to the grip for small hands, And #8 furthest from the grip for large hands...
