Broke down need help

Don't feel bad about being caught by a bad battery. I exchanged an old battery at a well known big box store, but it turned out no good. Took it back, got another, did this 4 times, which had me doubting my instruments, finally went to a motorcycle shop, got a good battery.

What big box store? So far have been buying them at Auto parts stores. Have had good luck previous years with Wally World.

Yeah it was Wally World, even the manager couldn't believe how many times I went back. Bad part is the store is 25 miles from my house, so 50 miles round trip for 4 trips, and I did ask to be reimbursed for fuel, she said don't push it.

The last battery I bought from an Auto parts store the clerk said add acid and hook it up... Never do it that way. I charge the battery for 24 hours. Unless I plan to start it and drive it for 3 or 4 hours.

Yes, ridding the heck out of you MC will keep battery charged but (not sure about a GW) but while setting there is drain on battery from running things in memory. Unless I am riding my Voyager XII daily, I put it on battery maintainer to keep it 100% charged. Mine will get critically low in a little over 2 weeks from clock and cb memory running.

One of the Best additions to your Wing or any bike is an analog voltmeter, always shows battery charge when running or maintain your battery and check it with a turn of the key.... Just FYI Wingstuff has this one, very easy install.... lets you monitor charging going down the road!!
