Belt Tension

How tight are some of you folks running the final drive belts?

My Lehman instructions say to run the belt to the same spec. as the 2-wheeler...which is the 5/16"-3/8" midway with the 10 pound pressure thingy. Ya'll know what I mean. Anyway, I have read in Champions instructions (standard straight-axle kit) where they specify a movement of 1-1/2 inches.

I know that you can break a loose belt easier than you can a tight belt. I am just curious as to why one kit-maker would specify 1-1/2 inches and another 3/8ths. That is a BIG variation. I realize that some kits may afford more swing-arm travel that others, but I am talking about like-for-like kits with straight axles.

Okay....get on out there, crawl under your bike and "give me the finger" test. It is not often someone asks you to give them the finger on purpose, so enjoy this while it last. If you can't give it in inches....an opinion will do, such as tight-as-a-banjo-string" or "almost floppy".

I thought you and I went through this a few months ago?

Or, am I loosing my mind, again. (don't answer that)

I think I had 3/4" @ 10lbs on the MT?

I don't remember if we talked about it or not, but I hate looking through old threads for information...I just start a new one.

THANKS for giving me the finger. I think I will loosen mine up to around 3/4.
