backfire help

on my wife's 1300vtx motortrike, I installed a car muffler w/a 2 into 1 adapter before the muffler. bike now pops some on deceleration, I've already desmogged it and that helped some. ideas?? I know problem is probably backpressure, but how else to alleviate it without increasing noise. wife's previous trike was 750 shadow which sounded like sewing machine, so quiet.

The car muffler eliminated some of the backpressure and leaned out the fuel mix. You might have to add more fuel via a fuel processor, or heavier baffles in the muffler. :Shrug:

ThumbUp I've been on VTXOA site for about 6 years and the info and people there are terrific. I've saved untold hundreds of dollars doing the work myself and following the advice there. I still have my VTX 1800c, my new to me Goldwing trike likes the company.

The muffler volume is too large. The exhaust gas is not expelling fast enough. There is unburned gas still in the muffler when you let off. Put a set of cherry bomb glass packs on it.. It is not a good idea to combine the 2banks into one muffler. Changing the output of the gas leaving your motor is not just about sound. You can damage it. The exhaust system is a very important part of the proper running of the motor... JMHO
